ABSOLUTE DATA PROTECT instead of LOJACK FOR LAPTOPS

Hello,

I purchased a DELL XPS 12 with 3-year subscription to LOJACK FOR LAPTOPS included via digital delivery.

Software was digitally delivered as I see it in Dell Digital Delivery window.

I found an icon on the desktop which instead took me to install ABSOLUTE DATA PROTECT for 3 months.

Computrace is activated in bios.

How can I fix this?

Hi Veni314,

LoJack licenses the “LoJack” name to Absolute Software. Please refer to the link http://bit.ly/QnA4wF

You may try the following steps to activate Lojack:

  • Restart the computer
  • Click on the link http://bit.ly/12F7nOy
  • Click On Activate New Account
  • Enter Dell Order Number
  • Enter your Telephone Number/Pin code
  • Click On Submit
  • Once you click on submit, Message will appear 'Username and Password have been e-mailed to xxx@xyz.com
  • E-mail will be send to the registered e-mail address with new user name and password
  • You can login using the new user name and password
  • User Name will be E-mail id
  • Password has to be changed at first login
  • Once you agree the lincence agreement, screen will appear (refer image)
  • Click on OK to complete the registration

Note:Once Computrace feature is enabled in bios it cannot be disabled.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Thanks a lot for your prompt support, Appu S.

I'll let you know when I get home and I carry out what you have suggested.

Meanwhile I've requested the removal of the Absolute Data Protect software, which is going to happen remotely the next time the agent contacts the monitoring center.

Regards.

Hi Veni,

Thank you for the response. Do let me know if you need any further assistance. However, May I know why would you like to remove the Absolute Data Protect software. If you have paid for the subscription, I would recommend not to uninstall it.

Hi Appu,

Well, I didn't pay for the subscription to Absulote Data Protect. That's why I don't need it. I did for LOJACK unless this includes the former, which I am sure it doesn't.

By the way, I tried what you suggested.

After entering the order number and the zip code to activate a new account and clicking submit , I got "The information you provided cannot be validated. Please try again."

Now, I'm stopped at this very first step...

Looking forward to your help.

Thanks and regards.

Veni

Hi Appu,

Thanks to your intervention and to Absolute Global Support, my problem has been resolved.

Prior to contacting you, I'd resorted to Absolute Global Support. They replied yesterday saying the issue was fixed.

They may have retrieved, or you may have helped them in getting them, my rights as a dell customer.

Earlier, when I got home and while I had my hands on the laptop and after few restarts, a shortcut to LoJack appeared on the desktop, whch allowed me to install that software and obtain protection for the 3 years I subscribed to.

Computer was on when the protecting agent was supposed to contact the Absolute server (which occurs every 24 hours). This may also have helped.

Regards.
