Installing GRUB for Debian on Precision 7920

Hello,

I am trying to use a Dell Precision 7920 Rack server to install Xen Project. I am at the beginning stages, where I am supposed to install Debian (I'm installing 10.6.0). The installation from CD seems to complete successfully, including installing GRUB.

However when rebooting the machine, I do not get an option to boot into GRUB, and all other boot options fail except for boot to CD if I re-insert the installation CD for Debian.

I have selected UEFI boot and disabled Secure Boot in BIOS. I can't seem to find any information on installing GRUB on 7920s. If anyone could help point me in the right direction, even just search terms that I should be using, or just tell me if this is not possible on my server, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi.

Not all operating systems are supported on all systems, so you might be using an unsupported os here.

You can find the supported operating systems here: https://dell.to/2IJ04or

I see:

  • Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat® Linux 7.3
  • Red Hat® Linux 7.5
  • Red Hat® Workstation 7.3
  • Ubuntu® 16.04
  • Ubuntu® 18.04 LTS
  • Windows 10, 64-bit
  • Windows 7, 64-bit

Maybe this is the reason for not booting.

So, you might consider using a supported OS instead of the unsupported.

Let me know if you have similar issues with a supported os.

Best regards,
Stefan
