R640 rebranding issues
Hi All,
im trying to re-brand an OEM server back to dell branding - however when trying to un-brand the system i get this error - Unable to run the (installation or configuration) job JID_164301154823 because Unable to complete the job because of an error during iDRAC firmware update
how can i stop this from happening?
i have drained flea power, retired the system to reset all defaults and reset cache/ NVRAM, ran an idrac update (completed fine)
regards
Natalie

Hi Natalie,
Could you share on what steps you're taking to rebrand the system? I see the job ID you've got shared, but would you mind being specific on which server action is throwing that error? I'm mostly interested in which particular screen you're at. If I'm mistaken about the below, then this information should help me find an answer for you.
The only solution I'd be able to suggest for this particular issue would be to replace the motherboard with a standard version. I know that's not an ideal answer, but there isn't a tool I can provide that I would remove and replace that branding. You might look at the link I have below, but the intended use for this tool is to prepare a server for OEM branding. I'd think you may be able to remove branding, but I wouldn't expect the Dell branding to return, based on what I'm reading.
I can't really recommend proceeding with this, since this would be using that tool in an unintended way. I don't expect doing this would bring you any problems, but you would be making changes to the board firmware (tiny as they may be) in an unintended way. I wouldn't completely exclude the possibility of creating an issue.

Hi Dylan,
I powered up the server and set up the idrac, then logged in, rebooted the server so it could complete post.
then went to the update tab in the gui and selected the file I wanted to use to update with (was already trying the one you gave the link for) but then when I started it off after about 5 seconds it fails with the above error. so I tried running a firmware update on the idrac and lcc which worked fine, but still same issue when trying to un/ re-brand

You can download a PM file, this you install via the IDRAC, Upon rebooting this will rebrand the machine as a Dell R640 DBE (De-branded) but will the Dell splash screen visible, the IDRAC BIOS will now be Dell branded. The guys at www.serverSource.co.uk helped me out with this issue in the past but you might need to throw a small order for a Hard drive for example but this is definitely do able.
