Re: Problem splitting individual device using SRDF/A in async mode

Hi Everyone!! I have a question on similar lines. Would appreciate your help.

On one of the servers in our environment had 28 device pairs in a Device Group, in the same RDF Group Number (RDFG 1) operating in Async Mode. For some reason we had to perform operations (split, failover, swap etc) on individual device pairs (using device file), hence changed the mode to Adaptive copy, disk mode (acp_disk) for the entire Device Group.

Once the activity was over 3 device pairs that were not needed for replication were removed from the Device Group, and were kept in Split state in a separate device file.

At this point, all the 28 device pairs were in Adaptive Copy Disk mode, with 25 pairs in Device Group and 3 pairs in a file outside the group.

Now when we tried to change the mode of 25 Device pair in the Device Group to Async again, we got the following message "All the devices in the SRDF/A session must be managed together when the devices are in async mode"

As a work around, we deleted SRDF pairing between the 3 Device Pairs that were taken out using "deletepair" command, and were then able to change the mode of Device Group to Async mode. We used Delete pair, as the data on those 3 device pairs was not needed, and replication was not needed.

I am confused as to why we got this message as all the device pairs (in DG and File) were in Adaptive Copy Disk mode.

Any pointers here is appreciated.
