There is definitely something wrong here. Can you send me the output of symcfg -sid xxx show -pool -thin and symdev show of one of the data device (from disk group 3) that you trying to add?
yes, I can create the data devices in diskgroup 3 but if I select Add to Pool: Raid5_15K (my pool), I get the error 'the selected disk group doesn't match the selected pool's technology. The available disk groups for the selected pool are 2 and 5.'
I don't want to create another pool as that defeats the performance benefit of expanding an existing pool.
I'm selecting the option to allocate the data devices to the Raid5_15K pool during the configuration of the data devices. I did try it the other way at first, create the data devices, then enable them and add them to the Raid5_15K pool but that was unsuccessful thus the attempt to add them during the build.
I did create a new device so I can give you the output of the symdev show.

they are all 300GB 15K disks.

Please confirm existing disk on the pool and disk group you want to add are same technology and same speed.

Jim,
Are you able to create the Data devices on disk group 3? these devices should same as existing data devices in the pool in size and Raid protection.
