V-MAX SRDF Split operation
Hi All,
I am trying to delete the SRDF pair for two devices. Currently my SRDF device group is in acp_disk mode. I tried to split the relationship. Split operation completed successfully. When I queried the the pair SRDF state is showing as "failed over".
Not sure why the split operation makes the pair to go to fail over state. Please advice me in this case.
Thanks,
Shankar R

HI Shankar,
It sounds like you are in a production environment so we'd like to move this thread over to the Support Forums Community where it can be addressed.
Thanks,
Stephanie

This can happen if the R1 devices are not presented to any host

Soon after split operation, check the query of RDF devices.
1)Symrdf -g XXXX split .....
2) symrdf -g XXXX query....
if you can see RDF Pair state for each device as SPLIT, then everything is fine. If you see FAILED OVER, then R1 devices are assigned to device group and also Host, where as R2 devices are not yet assigned to any host and device group for replication.
The Best practice for the DR purpose is to create and add the same devices on remote side also, so that you can easily replicate back in case of any Disaster.
3) symdg create XXX
4) symld -g XXX add devs XXX

The only possible reason for SRDF to show failed over state in case of Split is when you have not mapped your R1 devices (in case you are running the command from R1 side). Map the device to FA and it will start showing the correct split state.
