Intermittent WIFI connection?

If you are experiencing intermittent WIFI connection on the Venue 11 Pro 5130 or 7130, we need your help.   The problem I am attempting to gather more information on is that the WIFI driver won't always reconnect to a known router after a sleep cycle.   If you toggle the wireless radio off and back on, it will then connect as expected.   In addition, you can probably manually reconnect to the router or AP.

If you are experiencing this problem, please provide the following details so that we can get this fixed once and for all.  The newer versions of the driver were expected to fully resolve this, but I'm hearing of some issues with specific routers still.

Here is what I need:

System model and processor (core or Vpro for the 7130)
Router make and model
Router firmware version (if known)
Security setting (if known)  (e.g. WPA)

Thanks!

Problem reported on:

Asus RT-N12B1
Proxim AP-700 v4.0.1

Note: Return/Refund is not a possible option as the device is more than 30days(192days old).

A request for a time they can call me and the above note was what I got in the email when I asked for how to get a refund.

As some of you have previously said, I will not be buying from Dell again but hope someone out there can find a solution even if Dell can't.

Try to have a great day everyone :)

Gallowsland, you are not intruding!  So many people are having the same problem with both 8 & 11 that the 'defect' is probably the same.  You may wish to go to the following link - another Dell thread and read through the 5 pages of comments.  Unfortunately, no-one has actually found a solution so after reading please don't waste too much time trying the suggested fixes.  If your tablet is fewer than 30 days old, I would suggest you return it to Dell, otherwise, try to find a way you can live with it. Good luck.

My problems have evolved since the recent updates. I no longer see complete system hangs, however in a place where I roam (at home without roaming, there are no issues), I have to put in my username & password every day. It then roams properly for that day, but when I take it home & then go back in the next day, I have to put in my password & username again before it will connect. Other devices remember the password & connect correctly every day, so it's definitely something to do with the venue wireless card.

Also check this thread: more people with the same issues: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/4586/t/19542019?pi239031352=1#20689506

The bottom line is: Dell knows there are issues with the Venue Pro 8&11. The Wifi and Bluetooth drivers don't work properly. This thread proves that they know about it. However they don't have been able to come up with a solution. They could do two things:

  1. admit that the device is defective and allow people to return it, which would cost them money
  2. remain silent, hide behind procedures and the promise of 'repairs' (which are impossible without working drivers).

It is obvious that they have chosen option two. There is no shop where you can go to to complain, and they probably hope that eventually people will just give up. Corporate arrogance, in short.

Let's make sure that they don't get away with this. If we all post on Facebook and Twitter that Dell knowingly sell defective tablets and refuses to own up to this than all our social networks will know about this. Thousands of of people who hear about Dell's arrogance will help other people from not making the mistake we have made (buying from a company that can't be trusted) but through social monitoring Dell may also become aware that maybe the should do something after all.

I have posted about this on Facebook today, so more than 500 people have been warned.

And now on the plus side.... I've just thought of possible work around. Has somebody tried this yet? http://www.amazon.com/Cirago-Bluetooth-Speed-Adapter-BTA7300/dp/B005QUQPDA

I've just ordered one. I will disable the on board wifi and bluetooth and this adapter should replace them. It is a frustrating to spend more money and end up with a permanent adapter sticking out of the tablet, but if means that it will finally work properly, so be it. Hope this works. I will report back when I have received it.

Thanks, Venue 11 Pro 5130.  Posting on Facebook, etc. is a great idea and, as you say, hopefully Dell will do a recall or actually find a fix.  Will look forward to hearing if you have found a fix with a new adapter.

I am having this issue regardless of the modem, wifi type, or ISP I use. I have to completely disconnect from the wifi by turning the wifi off altogether, wait at least five minutes, then reconnect in order for it to connect. It's very frustrating. I have the Intel Atom CPU Z3770.

Still no luck maintaining a WiFi connection after updating the BIOS to A09 a few weeks ago.  See my previous post on Sept. 21st for the details of the issue and all the steps I've taken to try and resolve the issue.

If after 6 months have passed since I purchased the Dell Venue 11 and I still cannot maintain a WiFi connection and *all* WiFi networks in my vicinity disappear from the Windows WiFi network manager and the only way I can restore my connection and view the nearby WiFi networks again is by rebooting the tablet then this is a hardware issue and not a driver issue.

Dell needs to issue a recall on the Dell Venue 11 and 8 and replace the WiFi adapter because in its current form it is not usable when I'm constantly having to reboot.

I'm going to try installing the technical preview version of Windows 10 on the tablet and see if that makes a difference.  I doubt it, but you never know.  I'll post again whether it works or not.

A04 seemed to help, but shortly stopped working after. I then installed Windows updates, all recommended and important, and then an optional one, ASIX - LAN - ASIX AX88772B USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter. I don't know what it was for, but either way, my internet connection is much stronger. It still cuts out once in a while, but reconnects after a minute or two.

The issue first began when I initially updated Windows. I refreshed, but then without updating, the internet cut out the next day. The fix was to update the drivers, but that only allowed me to connect to my router. It didn't help the other connectivity issues.

I tried the Windows 10 Technical Preview.  No luck.  Still have the WiFi disconnect issue.  Using the June 4, 2014 WiFi driver and A09 BIOS.

So far the only real fix I've seen is using a wifi and bluetooth adaptor which isn't a very ideal solution to our problem but that does work making it more apparent that it's a hardware issue or at the very least a driver or firmware issue in which dell should recall our tablets for a repair

Hey there Dell Venue Pro 1530,

I'm glad that you are taking action, via social media, and trying to get others on board to try, and get Dell to own up to it's, "clearly known", problem. Social media pressure is a great solution, because it reaches millions of potential customers, and not even Dell can afford to take that backlash!! The one question I had was if you tried contacting Microsoft?? The reason I ask is, because I have found Microsoft a lot more open, and willing to work with their customers, regardless of the situation, (financial, or not). Perfect example the Xbox360, they took over a 1 billion dollar hit to fix their mistake, because they realize how crucial it is to keep your customer base happy. Plus, even though they might have to take a financial hit to keep their customers happy, they realize what great financial sense that makes, because it makes a life long customer, (with friends, and family), and a lifelong customer, (or even lengthy customer), is way, way, more profitable than 1 measly sale, and it's a great PR move as well, (Microsoft does have it's bad points, but no company sticks around this long, near the top by accident, (Dell should maybe take notes).

The other reason I pointed out calling out Microsoft, is because Dell is hurting them, because it's Windows 8.1 on these tablets, and Microsoft can't afford any bad publicity. Windows is basically their bread & butter, other than their enterprise business. Also, Microsoft has a big launch coming up, Windows 10, and, I'm sure they need all the good publicity they can get. Lastly if one of their distributing partners,(Dell), is pissing around with their product, and that product runs windows OS, Microsoft isn't going to be pleased. I thought that would be another avenue anyway. For the record I am a also a Dell Venue Pro 8.1 64bit owner.

Somehow.

I did remove the Windows updates a few times as suggested on this site, but my tablet had multiple nonsense bugs, always coming back.   was about to make a freezbie of it after 1 painful year.

In December I decided to make a complete "reinstall" or whatever term in the menu.  I also set the Windows Update completely automatic.

I had a few minor inconveniences, but at least it is operational now.

I have found that whenever the wi-fi card goes flaky all I have to do is uninstall the last windows update, reboot the computer and the wi-fi starts working again.  it will work again for a couple of weeks and them fail to connect again.   go through the same process and it starts working again.  not sure what is disabling the wi-fi card but going through the windows uninstall process will reset the card so it works again.

I have given up on dell fixing the problem and have vowed to never buy a dell product again based on my experience with the venue 11 pro. I can't believe that they have just stonewalled this problem but I guess they have.
