Streak Froyo OTA Update for O2 Customers

Hi Folks,

I was recently informed that the O2 OTA update for Froyo would be available starting today. I had a customer looking for it, but no luck as of a few hours ago. So I provided him with a manual link for O2 customers. The link appears to be working, if you don't want to wait for the OTA update. Here you go: http://cot.ag/fKoFRX

If you are an O2 Streak customer, please post here with any feedback on the Froyo update (include whether you used the link above or whether you got the OTA update automatically).

Thanks!

Amy

worked like a dream kept all my apps and looks brilliant

I love the dell widgets but if you dont like them just remove them and clutter up your screen as it was before

Never mind, Looks like I solved the problem by using the factory reset proposed earlier for another problem.

Well I take it back about the O2 blog - they have now approved my posting! Maybe their moderator had a day off yesterday or was snowbound or something...

However, no suggestions to resolve the rotate issue. Seems not everyone has it (so is it a hardware fault with the accelerometer?) but there a few others besides the two of us here (e.g. google found http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell-streak/24623-screen-rotation-issue-after-o2-official-update.html)

So is it hardware or software? Suggestions for fix?

Finally the update is here and for me it installed without any issues. Pleased to see the front camera now working as well. Facebook app crashed a couple of times but not a big deal. Not had a chance to test everything but so far it is good news. Web browsing seems a lot faster and generally the upgrade feels like a great improvement. Not yet convinced about the new interface but will give it a go for now.

Cheers,

Ola

You should have an option to select Front-Facing camera (or camcorder if you are in video mode) when pressing the menu button while in the the camera application. The menu button brings up a menu on the bottom of the screen with the options Switch to video, Gallery and Front-Facing Camera.

Cheers,
Ola

I have the same problem. After the update the display on the dell was upside down. I had to turn of auto rotation and this did the trick but the problem is i like to use it sometimes in potrait and cant.

I thn turned off my phone and did a screen calibration, turned the phone back on and the screen was the right way with auto rotation on BUT the screen sometimes flips over to the wrong side no and again.

Am really dissapointed with dells customer support.. When the 2.1 update came out I also had problems then and had to send my dell away for a month to get it fixed. When i got it back. It was not in the original box i sent it in, instead a cheap brown plain cardboard box AND I didnt get my 32GB memory card sent back.

I contacted dell and 4 Months down the line they still have not sent the card stating its stil "pending" I have phoned them at least 12 times and have 12 different service request numbers. I am very dissapointed in a company such as dell. I wont be parting with them in the future.

Hi Amy,

I am indeed an O2 Streak customer, (had left mine un-updated from 1.6, and even asked you about picking up one in that state before buying), and was rather excited when i saw the pop-up for the 2.2OTA update... backed up my apps, it installed seemlessly, and was all set to give it a go.

A few features I definatly miss, (The numeric-keypad keyboard, the image-editing ability for photos, the fact the real-estate for putting icons and widgets down has shrunk), but in some ways these pale compared to a different, unfortunate issue.

The device is stuck in Airplane Mode, (which I did not turn on), and refuses to turn off from it, leaving me with just WiFi access or nothing.  No phonecalls unless I want to use Skype, (Which I can now that it's no longer 1.6, hooray!).  I tried my SIM in another phone to see if that might have suddenly failed - it had not, and it confirmed that there was indeed some 02 signal still present here.

Some googling has suggested that this is a 'feature' of 2.1 and above that puts the phone into airplane mode when it detects too low signal, but It does not want to come out of it.  And in anycase, I wish to disable it if at all possible...

Hi
Like a lot of other people since upgrading to 2.2 my screen is now upside down in landscape mode. It takes for ever shaking it to get it to flip over to the right way up. So come on Amy as you asked for problems etc. give us an answer or at least acknowledge that you are now aware of the problem. I upgraded using the official shortcut from o2.

 Regards

Hi

I downloaded the new update on Friday morning and love it!  much better than 2.1, however...

Yesterday morning, my phone suddenly rebooted itself for no reason but got stuck on the Dell logo when trying to boot back up.  I now can't get into my phone, I've tried leaving it a while, I've tried holding the volume buttons down to get to the reset option (nothing happens) but still as soon as I switch in on it just starts a loop of loading to the Dell logo then switching itself off, switching itself back on and loading to the logo again, just a constant loop with no way out.

HEEELLLPP I'm stuck without a phone now :emotion-9:

Hi, I got the automatic update to 2.2 a few days ago.

I did backup my contacts with the application suggested, and then restored them after the update. Many, though, have not been restored.

Meanwhile, whenever I try to quit the web browser it gives me the error message "System exception" and then "The application Browser (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I updated my phone Wednesday to 2.2 with the OTA Update from O2 and, although a little aprehensive what with the software issues I encountered with the 2.1 update, (resulting in Dell issuing me a new handset, still with 1.6 on it) I was pleasantly surprised.  Yes there are a couple of issues but, on the whole, everything seems good.

The issues I encountered were:

The Facebook and Twitter apps wouldn't sign in, although I could access them from the browser.

YouTube wouldn't work at all.

Every time I close the browser I get an error message, although this actually doesn't affect the functionallity of the the browser itself.

After leaving the device a couple of days I was able to access YouTube and Facebook from the UI so all's good there.  The browser however still give the error message but, as it doesn't affect browsing, it's not a major issue.

I also quite like the new keypad, the lack of the numeric keypad would be an issue, or so I thought but no, if you want to insert a numeral just hold the relavent key down and, as if by magic, the number appears.  Another major plus for me is the device now charges in the car!!

Hi Amy!

I backed up, successfully, to my SD card, updated OTA, then restored "successfully", last night.

Unfortunately, the restore only restored the 11 contacts that I had entered, manually, on my Streak, and not the other 134 that I had synced across using the no longer supported Dell™ PC Sync.

No matter, I thought, I just need to sync my Streak with Outlook Contacts on my PC.  However, to my chagrin, Dell™ Mobility Sync for the Dell Streak only seems to sync media files.

What is the solution/workaround for this?  What you published promised that my contacts would be backed up and restored.  Not just 11/145ths of them.  I will be very unhappy if I have to re-enter 136 contacts, manually.

Stephen
