Streak Froyo OTA Update for O2 Customers

I would like to know if there is ANY update for the Froyo 2.2.  Any update would be better than no update at all.  I've called Dell and at&t to no avail.  Even if you have news of "they're still working on the glitches", that would be better than no news at all.  Count me as one of the many disappointed customers for the Dell Streak.  My concern is that, as at&t has done much in the past, they will have a new phone out and will completey blow off the Streak.  Please give us any info you can about the update.

P.S. I notice you haven't been around for a while.  Hope all is well.

I recently purchaced a Dell Streak at "Best Buy" with OS 1.6 installed.  I just updated (via the Steak and my home Wi-Fi) to OS 2.2 but in the process lost all my contacts eventhough I backed up the unit and performed a restore after updating.  Luckily, I had them on my computer and I imported them from Outlook to my Gmail account and then sync'd my Streak with my Gmail account.  I was able to save my apps however and my "favorites" re web browser.  Don't ask me how.  Previously, I noticed that the sync of contacts under OS 1.6 with my Outlook (on computer) via the USB link was really bad.  I ended up with dozens of duplicates and missed contactes on my Streak.  I don't recommend using the USB link for anything other that transferring pictures & files between computer and phone.

I do like the automatic syncing of my Outlook calendar with Gmail and my Streak; especially since both my wife and I have the Streak and share the same calendar.  This way we only have one calendar and everything including Outlook is kept in sync.

My major complain with OS 2.2 is that the contacts fonts are TOO small !!!  I can hardly read them.  Web and other displays are OK, but the Contacts are ridiculously small.  You almost need a magnifying glass to see them.  This is very disapointing since I have over 300 contact entries with lots of "notes" entered.

I resisted all urges to install Froyo unofficially and waited somewhat patiently for the official version.  HAPPY FRIDAY ITS HERE!! 

Install went well... however one MAJOR problem.

My device is now "locked" into Airplane mode and will not attach to AT&T 3G network.  I am unable to use the phone or texting or have any internet access other than what I can get through WIFI.  I have gone into settings and into the networks - airplane is checked and will not uncheck, and the manage networks option is darkened and unable to be accessed.  Powering down and removing battery has not solved this. 

A little help please??  Is this a Dell support issue or a AT&T issue??

You need to try a factory re-set, which is not the same as powering down and removing battery.   http://www.knowyourcell.com/other-cell-phones/dell/dell-streak/streak-guides/566326/how_to_hard_reset_the_dell_streak.html.   Others have had issues with connecting to their 3G and other networks which have been solved by going into Mobile Networks then Access Point Names then use menu button to call up options and go for reset to default.   But this is no good to you if you can't get into Manage Networks.  Otherwise google "Dell Streak locked in airplane mode" and you will probably find someone else who has had this problem.   I had more issues than you can imagine after updating and each and every one was slowly sorted by Googling and finding others with the same issues.   It has not been an easy update that is for sure!

HAPPY Dell Customer today!  LOVING all of the new docking options and swype keyboard.  I'm sure I'll find more goodies throughout the day as I play with my Streak instead of taking care of my responsibilites. =)

Got my Streak a few weeks ago for use as a business tool with added fun features as a bonus. Was getting the hang of it, organising contacts/calanders etc along ith the fun apps...then got the prompt to update it from 2.1 to 2.2.

Now have a fun apps toy that, despite backing up as instructed, has NO contacts or calander entries previously synched from my PC outlook, and the PCsuite program has been dropped for 2.2 with apparantly no replacement in the downgraded alternative software? Guess I should have checked out the spec first, but you dont expect upgrades to LOSE such a basic element of functionality in this day and age.

How can you upgrade a phone like the streak to give it LESS ability to be used as a serious mobile business tool than the cheapest old nokia I have that has managed for years to syncronize contacts/calander/tasks/notes etc with a PC?  

Guess the kids are getting an expensive games console while I dust off my old XDA for continued service while I check out something with windows mobile.

There are two things that I cans share with you that you may find useful.

1) As a general point, as a heavy Steak user, I am constantly left with the feeling that this product was not engineered and developed with any passion or pride. I say that because the more you use it, the more you find functional potholes.Gaps in capability that could be easily filled but instead leave you just on the verge of being satisfied. Am convinced that the designers don't use the Streak as their own primary device, because if they did, it would never have shipped. The Streak is a greatest almost device I have come across and totally setup to be toxic to building any kind of brand loyalty. Unless Dell can get to grips with the culture required for a mobile device, that is not the same as the PC, they will in time disappear from this space. Dell, get you sh!t together. Nobody is too big to fail.

2) Install Phone Explorer from http://www.fjsoft.at/en/  Its freeware but you should donate something as its fracking awesome. It will sync with outlook as well as allow you to call/accept calls and send/receive SMS from your PC when connected.It also creates backup of your phone books, calenders and tasks. It's a 5/5 recommendation.

i just got my second streak , coz my first had a system error after just 48 hrs of new update to Froyo, 

the best buy and tell customer service, decided to give me a new device since they couldn't figure out what the problem was ,

but now THE BEST BUY , AGENT SAYS TO ME NOT TO UPDATE IT ,BECOUSE  IT MIGHT COUSE THE SAME PROBLEM !!!!!!!!!!! 

I have a question. I have the O2 update, however everything in my Music folder has gone. Ive had to download ES File Explorer just so that I can access the audio on my SD card again. Ive tried installing SDrescan but nothing yet. This device is becoming a real pain....back to my olf failful Blackberry in the meantime I think.

i have just got this twice on my my system has failled twice now and wipe the whole phone cleaned. erased everthing. so what do you do to stop this from happening. is the dell 2.2 better than the att 2.2. or should i ask will it runn with out crashing in a week?
