Mount a filesystem to multiple NAS servers

I am trying to help a customer migrate data from an old VNX to a Unity system.

On the VNX, the customer has two VDMs that have the same filesystem mounted, but present different shares through CIFS.

I would like to copy this behavior to Unity, but the only thing I can find is the svc_nas -proxy_share and with that, I can not change the share rights

Are there any way of mounting a filesystem to two different NAS servers in Unity?

TIA

Hello Jdansbo,

Here are a couple of links to kb’s that maybe of assistance.

Hi Sam.

Thanks for the links. None of them seem to be relevant. The first one is about doing local migration of block storage, the second is about import jobs from other systems and the last is about creating multiprotocl nas server.

I have a need to create two different SMB servers that serve the same data, but with different rights on the shares. proxy_share's almost gets me there, but it is not possible to change the rights of a proxy share. Are there any other ways of achieving this scenario?

Thanks

Hello Jdansbo,

I am not aware of anyway to achieve what you are trying to do.

probably need to open a case to confirm, but I suspect  there is a

1:many relationship between nas server and file systems which is blocking this, i.e. if this is hard wired relationship then what you are attempting is not possible. For VNX the relationship was  less hard, ie VDM's could have file system from various physical DM associated with them ' via under the hood config'. but there is less 'under the hood' tweaking possible on Unity ( as security model has been hardened - there also may be other reasons )

No axe to grind - customer since CX - simply observing

no - except for proxy NAS - you cannot mount a file system on a different NAS server

However am not sure if you are analyzing the VNX config correctly
It was never possbile to mount a file systems to two VDMs
May this was the very old method to access a file system from both a CIFS server on the physical data mover level and from a VDM - which isnt possible on Unity
