I have an inspiron notebook (XP home edition) that has gotten infected with multiple viruses and trojan horses.  I have run AVG and adaware software to try to remove/eliminate them.  Per instructions on the McAfee site I turned off the system restore before running these programs.  I can run the programs to the point that they both report there are no infected items on the computer.  I then reboot the computer and everything is fine until I try to use the internet.  At that point I think the trojan horses kick in.

It does the following:  It starts connecting and looks like its going to my earthlink home page, then all of a sudden I guess it gets hijacked and goes to "adultfindfinder.com".  (I might mention I do not need any more adult friends).  At this point or soon thereafter the computer just completely freezes up... I can't even turn it off, I have to wait for the battery to run down and then reboot.

When I reboot and run AVG antivirus it comes up with the following infections:

     Trojan horse generic.BMC

     Trojan horse downloader generic. LF

     Trojan horse IRC / backdoor.sd bot.185.BE

These are in the files goaway(1).exe, mmxxxxmas(1).exe, A0014321.exe, and A0015320.

I can eliminate them using the antivirus software but they come right back.  Clearly these TH or viruses are embedded somewhere else and are regenerating themselves when I attempt to connect to the internet.

I have probably spent 5 hours trying to fix this and have basically gotten nowhere.  There is not much data or many programs on this computer.  I do not have any problem (other than learning how) with doing a full restore of the operating system if that is best and will take the least time.  Any help, advice, or assistance anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
