Generic Host Process For Win32 Problem
Hi, I am running winxp sp2 on my Dell 8250. As of yesterday, I am receiving this message upon start up.
It reads something like this: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to close. Then it goes on to say Please Tell Microsof about the problem but I chose not to send, simply because this forum has been a tremendous help with all my problems that I have.
So does anyone know what this could be, I have not installed anything lately, and all my norton anti viruses are up to date, and clean, firewall is in place. I also have AdAware Se Personal, and SpyBot, and Microsoft AntiSpyware. And all comes up clean. Is it possible there is a virus that is causing the Generic Host Process for Win32 problem?
Any help is appriciated.
Joe

When you get that error message there should be link to show the details of the error report. Click on that link and write down and report here the AppName and ModName involved in the error.

Thanks to both of you for writing back. Steve the next time it happens I will write it down. I did see the info, but just did not write it down.
Conrad, we do have a HP printer, and my drivers on a cd that they sent me for winxp, just does not work. I rely on winxp OS, to pick up the printer and it works pretty good that way. In other words, when I bought this computer in 2003, my printer cd that came with printer, did not install, because winxp poped and said, these drivers are not compatible with the OS. So HP sent me out a cd that is suppose to be compatible, but that to did not work. Same message. So when I unplugged and plugged back in the printer winxp picked it up. It seems to work ok. So do you think that is my problem? It just started happening 2 days ago. And thank you for the link.

Hello For the past few weeks I have had a similar problem which I think is now resolved.
First thing you need to do is make a note of the time the error occurred. Then go to Control Panel - Administative Tools - Event Viewer - double clic on Application. On this list look for the time that your error occured, you will probably find one within a few seconds of the time given in your error message. Next make a note of the name of your error under the heading Source and the number under the heading Event. When I did this with the name and number that was given for my error I put it into search and found a Microsoft page which described my problem and I was able to download a clean up tool which appears to have fixed the problem.
I hope this helps digf
