Hi jessi1,

I, too, had a terrible time getting Flash Player to download today. Took me about an hour of searching before I finally ran across this page at Adobe:

Once there, all my problems were solved.

I also had trouble determining if it was properly installed because I'm on slow dialup, and the Flash Player always times out for me on the internet. But I found this page that confirmed proper installation without having to run the player itself (it's an old Macromedia page that redirects to Adobe):

BTW, after the download I filled out the feedback form saying that they should make this page more readily available. Don't waste your time filling out the survey, though. It's out of date and doesn't even apply to the current version 9.

Hope this helps! Please do post back with your results.

Thanks for reply, I have tried and retried this site with no results, what happens is I select to agree to the terms and conditions etc and then click 'install', it then looks like it maybe installing but the green bar just keeps rotating, it never comes up with the film that is supposed to be displayed once flash in installed.....

I then uninstall what does seem to install and start again....

I have also tried everything suggested on the Flash troubleshooting page, ie the activex controls settings, and it still makes no difference.

It is really frustrating, its as though it is there but my computer is not using it.

When I look in the list of programs on my computer it is there as.- Adobe Flash player 9 ActiveX,

I dont understand.....

Hope you can shed a little more light!

Forgive me for being stupid, but how did you actually check if it had installed correctly?? I followed your link onto the old macromedia site ( www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ ) but could not see anywhere, or any direction as to how to check.....

Thanks for all your help,

I am still no further along to having flash player, please could you read my other posting and see if you have any other suggestions....thank you soooo much.

Sorry you're still having trouble. :(

That green bar just going and going and going with no film coming up is what I meant about timing out. Believe me, I went through the same trial and error and headache process that you've been going through.

Unfortunately, my screen capture utility isn't working at the moment, so I'll just try to replicate what you'll see when you go to http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ ....

First, I was wrong about the page redirecting to Adobe. It's still on the Macromedia site, but it's definitely an Adobe page.

Across the top you'll see the standard menu stuff, then below that, the words "Adobe Flash Player," and immediately below that, the following words:

Adobe Flash Player is installed.
Version 9,0,47,0 Installed Successfully

There's absolutely nothing you have to do. If those words are there, you're good to go. If they're not, then I'm afraid that I don't know what else you can do about the situation, short of trying to get support at Adobe.

Don't worry about appearing "stupid," as you said. There's so much to learn about all this stuff that I often can't see what's directly in front of my face. You're doing fine. Please let me know what happens, OK?

How are you uninstalling? You can't just use Add/Remove control panel to uninstall Flash. You need to use Adobe's own uninstall tool, here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

Reboot, run the uninstaller and then reboot again. Now download fresh copy of Flash. When you're done installing it, go here to test:

Ron & Oldmom,

thank you for your help, combined with OLDMOM! I have finally managed to get Flash player by...

uninstalling as you suggested, reinstalling from the adobe website, rebooting....(it did look like it timed out again, however I then went to the macromedia website to check if installed, and it said it had!...so i then checked on a website and it is working!!

So Thank you very very much!

Ron, thanks for that hint about uninstalling Flash player. Wish I had known that back when I was struggling, but now I'll know for the next update, anyway. BTW, the page you listed to verify correct installation worked very nicely -- better than the Macromedia page, actually, since it also included the Shockwave player.

Jessi, I'm delighted I could help you and that all is well! You're very welcome.
