Performance Score

I have noitced that the folks with my Laptop Video Card x1400 are getting a score of 3.6-3.7.
I was at Best Buy tonight and a Laptop they had had the same card installed and the salesman was showing me how it score 4.7. How could this be for a midpriced laptop and with the same Video Card. Is Dell selling a stripped down card or is Best Buy playing games.

My E1505 is configured just like yours and also has a Vista score of 3.7. The 3.7 is based on the lowest score of all the tests, which was the ATI 1400 video card.

What model were you looking at?

On my Inspiron 1501 I'm getting a Index score of 3.1 with the 8.33 Ati Vista drivers on the integrated X1150 Card

3D Business & Gaming Graphics - 3.1.
Desktop Performance Graphics for Aero - 4.8. This is probably what he showed you.

The video obviously is the weak link on most notebooks as all my other scores are well above 4. I don't think the score means a whole lot anyway as I have been running the Oblivion game using lower settings but it is playable.

I don't recall the model but it was an HP at best buy  and it had the same exact video card as ours the Radeon X1400 that rates 3.7 for graphics on our Dell's and it rated 4.9. I don't know if best buy rigged it some how or did Dell sell us yet more crippled hardware like their burners that only burn + discs. This needs ti be investgated but I don't know how. Would best buy be playing a parlor game or has Dell ripped us off.

This is what it says for the discription of the burner on the 1505. Note the red text.

8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability [Included in Price].

How did they rip you off?

What does the performance index say for the X1400 card?

3D Business / Gaming Score ?
Desktop Aero Score ?

The integrated Ati X1150 with shared memory scores are:

3D Business & Gaming Graphics - 3.1.
Desktop Performance Graphics for Aero - 4.8.

3D Business / Gaming Score 3.7
Desktop Aero Score 3.6

how can your integrated card beat this the x1400 was supposed to be better and it does score higher at best buy with a 4.9 for business gaming and 4.7 for aero. same card and a big differance. I don't understand.

I think it all smoke and mirrors for this gaming score thing. It is just a rating and doesn't do anything as far as the systems operation.

I mean really I have an integrated card sharing memory with the system and it scored a 4.8 forAero and 3.1 for Gaming. The X1400 with dedicated Ram should be higher for Aero wouldn't you think?

Your X1400 Aero Score = 3.6
 My X1150 Aero Score = 4.8

Your X1400 Game Score = 3.7
 My X1150 Game Score = 3.1

What drivers are you running? My score did increase by a few points when I installed the Newest Dell Video drivers Version 8.33. Have you tried to "Update your score " on the right side of the display that shows the individual scores?

Inspiron 1501, Turion Single Core MK36, 2 GB Ram, X1150 Video.
Scores:
Processor = 4.1
Mem Ram = 4.9
Graphics = 4.8
Gaming Graphics = 3.1
Hard Disk = 4.6

Overall = the lowest score = 3.1

OK, here are scores for an older system.

Processor:   3.7
Memory :      4.4
Aero:             3.7
Games:        3.4
Hard drive:    3.9

Base score:  3.4

What kind of memory does the X1400 have?

I guess the point has been missed here. What I was trying to express is how could a laptop at Best Buy using the exact same X1400 mobility Video Card as I have could rate a Vista gaming performance of 4.7 and people here including myself are getting 3.7 from the same card installed in our Dell's.

Lower performance on your ATI card could be explained if the drivers provided by Dell are not the latest vista drivers provided by ATI. Have you gone to their site to see? I have often seen drivers here at Dell for hardware that are much older than the current drivers provided by the hardware manufacturers and billed by Dell as "updated" though they are older than the ones I have in my system.

My ATI x1300 Pro rates 4.6 for Aero and 4.1 for gaming with the latest Vista drivers from ATI.

Your right Best Buy doesn't show any online. This was in the store I wasn't really paying attention to model actually I was there to buy a wireless mouse and I was asking about Vista compatibilty and the Salesman was showing me that it works with Vista and I happened to ask a question about Aero which they had displayed a little differanly than I do. He apparanley didn't know that I already had the ability to run it and was showing me the performance numbers and that is when I saw how high it was and noticed that it had a X1400 ATI card like many of us here but the performance numbers were so much higher for gaming and graphics. I people here who have the same setup as me have been reporting 3.6 and 3.7 for Aero and gaming. I was wondering how they are getttting much better performance with the same card.

i not really sure what brand the Laptop was but it was $1599 with an x1400 card. I have installed the latest drivers from ATI. I was wondering how their laptop with same card could perform so much better.

Perhaps the X1400 at bestbuy has 512 MB Ram hypermemory unlike at dell's 256 mb Ram hypermemory, and that raises the score? I don't know.
