Screen E153FP, A locked lock & an unlocked lock keep appearing-PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am brand new to the forum and admit I am almost computer illiterate.  I have a menu screen-E153FP  that keeps popping up, along with a blue screen that shows a white locked lock and then an unlocked lock. Computer is out of warranty. Is there a way to correct this?  Does anyone please have an idea of what might be wrong? This is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

This< ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> is the info I got for your monitor, I do not see any of a lock or something like that...

Are you sure this is something about the monitor??? It could be something about Windows...

Thank you for your response. I am sorry to say-I am truly one of those computer illiterate people!!!!  I do nothing on the computer other than talk to family and I do e-bay. Over a wk. ago a screen popped up-at the top showed E153FP and it was a menu screen(showed exit, etc) could not exit-tried but the mouse would go under it.  After that screen-camea blue box showing a white locked lock-then eventually it would open. I does not happen all the time-maybe every other time I get on the computer.  I have run everything I know how, plugged and unplugged and the screens will still show up.  I did contact Dell by phone, only to be told I was out of warranty-which I knew and then was being transferred to tech support-disconnected-no return call either.  Not complaining about Dell-just looking for an answer to what I would think is a simple problem for most. I am at a total loss.  Any advice you could give me would be truly appreciated.

Honestly I have no idea of the screen you have... It will be nice to have a pic of the screen at the moment you have the blue box...

Since you say the mouse is not leting you to do anything on the box, is not something related to the video driver, windows or something like that. It is a monitor menu option. Have you tried to press the buttoms on the monitor, and see if the options change...??? What usually happens before the screen came up?

With the diagrams- from you and my trying to research on the internet that came up in German-might be the monitor.  One button is somewhat receased and cannot get it up. You have no idea of how much this is stressing me!!! From your diagram-one buttom is for the menu and one also covers the power save  mode..  I have tried Poking the buttons, tweezers and condensed ari-no help-only worse.  I have the Phillips screwdrivers out-what do you think? Honest, not an idiot other than computers.  Thank you for you help-you have no idea of how much it means to get a real response. Please advise before I blow something up.  By the way-I am not a kid-I am 62, almost 63.

If you don’t have monitor manual then use the above link provided by GioAguilar

Scroll down to Accessing the Menu System, note item 4 about OSD

Then scroll down further until you see in the icon column the OSD Lock

Is the icon padlock associated with OSD Lock the one that appears on your monitor?

PS do not poke around with screwdriver whether it’s powered on or not !

Thank you for you input.  No, I did not take a screwdriver to the monitor. I just turned the whole mess off and walked away from it for a few days. Hope to start in again tomorrow, or the next day. I am truly not an idiot-just have a mental block when it comes to computers, cell phones, etc. OSD lock-I would do better with the Greek language,(just kidding). Thanks to you and  to Gio.  I know it must take patience to deal with a computer idiot.  Yrs. ago-tied the Idiot books-I flunked.  Thanks-will let you know how I do.

After much searching on the net and reading all forums on this issue i have figured out a fix!! Finally! All you need are 2 small flat head screw drivers, a phillips screw driver and a little will. (Note, if you have this problem the will shouldn't be a problem!!). First disconnect your E153FP from the computer by removing monitor cable and power cord from the back of the monitor. (DO NOT leave power cord pluged in!!).   Remove the monitor stand from the back of the monitor for easier access.  Flip the monitor upside down and note the 4 small channels on the underside of the case.  Carefully using the flat head screw drivers rotate and pry the front case cover (bezel) from the back of the case.  This will take some finesse and probably brute force.  Try not to break anything or damage the case since you will have to live with your efforts.  Once the 2 halves of the case are appart, you will see the back of the screen exposed.  The buttons for power etc are on the bottom left looking down.  Follow the cable from the button circut board to the right side of the monitor shield.  Simpley remove the cable and put everything back together!!  Voila, no more problem.  You will have to leave your screen on all the time but just adjust your power settings in your OS.  Good Luck!

Steel5683,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

It is never a good idea to get a screw driver and take apart your monitor. You could very well have been eleotrocuted. This is also not the solution to unlock your monitor. For future reference when posting on  the forum it is best to make a new post instead of reply to a post that is this old. We also have a Monitor forum board as well.

If you have a PADLOCK on your screen.

'OSD Lock': Controls user access to adjustments. When 'Yes' (+) is selected, no user adjustments are allowed. All buttons are locked except the menu button.

All buttons can be locked or unlocked when the 'Menu' button is pushed and held for over 15 seconds.

Note: When the OSD is locked, pressing the 'Menu' button will take the user directly to the 'OSD settings' menu, with 'OSD Lock' preselected on entry. Select 'No'(-) to unlock and allow user access to all applicable settings.
