Windows can't find own desktop blocks almost everything

Question

I just system restore my computer because it had some trouble loading and a bit of an error but after it was done this image kept popping up. Now i can't even install any new software of anykind or none of the software that was installed on there can't load up now. when i try to get onto the internet that pop up keeps showing up. It keeps repeating can't find desktop folder and when i try to go to that folder it blocks me off from going into it

Hi,

See if this works

Go back to the folder and take ownership of the folder by right clicking it and selecting Properties.

Select the Security Tab and click the Advanced button.

You'll see an Owner tab so add your User Name to the list

You may need to go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View tab and uncheck "Use simple file sharing" or you won't have a Security tab otherwise.

XP Home
Go to Safe Mode to find the Security Tab

You need to be using an Admin Account to do it.

Once you have given yourself permission you will not get the “Access Denied” message.

To apply to subfolders check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" before you click “Apply”

If you have XP Pro
Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\"Your User Name"\Desktop
Right click it and select Properties.
Select the Security Tab and click the Advanced button.
You'll see an Owner tab so add your User Name to the list

If you do not have a Security Tab
Go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View tab and uncheck "Use simple file sharing" .

You should have the Security Tab then.

If you have XP Home

I was very confuse at this, i didn't know which folder to go back to and cliking on which security tab?

When i got to this point, there wasn't a use simple file sharing tab at all

When i got into Safe Mode, i was very much lost at find the securtiy tab u had instructed
