The following may help. But if the onboard video works fine but the GPU card gives you an error, it would seem that there is a problem with the video card. At this point it would look like replacing the video card would be the fix. Have you another video card that you can try in the system?

Kind of an old system, so is it worth replacing the video card at this point, or just using the onboard video since that's working? 

Just something to consider, if budget is an issue....

Yes, it is indeed a very old system. I managed to get a video card of a friend and this card worked. So it is probably the video card that is broken. I replaced it with a very old video card that was originally placed on this motherboard, which worked.
