XPS 13 Plus 9320, Touchpad malfunctioning

Hello,

I very recently received my new XPS 13 Plus 9320. I happily used it for about a week until one the day the haptic feedback from the touchpad suddenly began malfunctioning. It still functions mostly as a mouse (moving, scrolling, clicking), but the feedback only makes a sound and no physical feedback. All feedback intensity settings feel the same except 100% where the touchpad becomes unusable. At 100% intensity the touchpad automatically clicks about every second even when I am not touching it.

I've been in touch with Dell support and have an open ticket but nothing has helped. Restarting comp, resetting settings, reinstalling/updating drivers, restoring comp, and reinstalling windows 11 have not fixed it. Seems likely to be a hardware issue at this point.

Has anyone else experienced this? This issue makes for a poor experience using the touchpad and I am unhappy that a week-old machine would physically break without any apparent trauma.

Thanks!

I have the same issue with my laptop: the left click gets stuck and the speaker is malfunctioning. I had this issue only shortly after having this expensive laptop. I returned the first laptop that I received because it was an open box! So I returned it, and then I received this current one with the frustrating issue of the left click on the trackpad getting stuck. The laptop has also malfunctioning in the speakers; it's noisy when I raise the volume, and the technical team couldn't solve the problem. Unfortunately, they didn't exchange my laptop, and Dell asked me to go for a warranty, although it was still during the first 30 days of my purchase. I wouldn't like to return this laptop for warranty as I'm using it for my daily work, and I'm not sure how long it takes to get it back. This laptop only "looks" beautiful and the functionality is not near good at all. Please let me know if you have any suggesions.

I had a similar problem. The touchpad just had a life of its own. I tried 1,000 different solutions with software and drivers. I think I installed and reinstalled everything I could. I even reinstalled the Windows system from scratch. it was horrible, nothing worked. Contacting support had no effect, just like in your case, everything was in vain.

When I realized that the problem is most likely in Hardware I started looking for ways to solve this problem. I decided that the laptop needs to be cleaned, maybe dust or dirt or something like that clogged and prevented the correct operation of the device. I wanted to take the laptop to the service center for this procedure, but after reading several articles, realized that I can try to do it myself if, if will be careful enough. I used the instructions from one of the web sites, If I remember correctly it was  I took the aptop apart, cleaned it according to the instructions, then carefully plugged everything back in and made sure everything worked. everything really worked except for the sensor.

I ended up just taking the laptop to a service center where they fixed my touchpad. maybe that should have been a good place to start.

I have a 9320 Plus (which was a warranty replacement of a prior model XPS 13). My touchpad goes haywire all the time. Multiple touchpad replacements have been done, and the 3rd is happening this week. One thing I have noticed is that the click getting stuck (so it drags everything when the cursor is moved) happens 100% of the time that I fly. If I do or do not use my laptop prior to the flight, plugged in or not, none of that matters. But 100% of the time when I pull out the laptop while in the air, the touchpad is already clicked and will not release without a reboot. It's like the air pressure change causes the issue.

And as a separate issue, once every few days, I hear that clicks in the upper left corner begin exhibiting a higher pitch noise than normal. It's like a virus that slowly spreads across the rest of the touchpad over about 1-2 hours and eventually the whole thing clicks at an extremely high pitch. Shortly after the whole touchpad has the high pitched click, it will begin randomly clicking on its own (but with the normal pitch noise) without me touching it. That quickly becomes a one click a second and the laptop is unusable until I do a power button down for 10 seconds power off.

Well, Dell replaced the touchpad today, and now it does not click whatsoever. No click, no haptic, but the cursor moves great and without a delay now, so....I guess that's progress? Dell now wants me to ship the laptop to them so they can examine it for a few weeks.

Well Dell had a technician come over and fix my touchpad. It didn't work at all until i redownloaded the drivers and it worked like it was brand new, for about a day. Now the laptop doesn't do anything. I can't even turn it on, clicking the power button only shows a pink light in the middle of the keyboard where the FN keys are. Dell now wants me to ship the laptop back to them, so hopefully this will finally fix things...

Code of Conduct which all agreed to when joining. DELL-Admin>

Can we raise the issue with a higher department? clearly DELL knows that the mouse pad was an issue FOR A LOT of customers, nevertheless they kept selling this computer and only issue a 30 day refund.

Bought a DELL XPS 13 PLU 9320 end of Nov 2022.

End of Jan 2023 - the mouse pad stopped working and so did the charger.  Multiple days and weeks took for some technician to come to my house and try to fix the issue. First technician not only was he rude and scratch my laptop but could not fix the problem, two days after they sent another technician to replace the motherboard, basically the whole computer, and did not work.

So nice of DELL, they didn't want to take their useless laptop back and give me my money back, they offer me to send me refurbished laptop. That was the "ONLY" solution they gave me.
policy. DELL-Admin>

End of Feb 2023 - received the refurbished laptop. As expected, it was defective. The camera did not work, the Bluetooth did not work and the battery life was 1hr 30min with a fully charge.

March 1st, 2023 - I've been on the phone since 7am EST (it currently is 10:50am EST). I've been transferred between the CUSTOMER CARE TEAM and the TECHNICAL SUPPORT TEAM back and forth approximately 10 times (no exaggeration). Currently the Technical support said they were transferring me to the customer care team AGAIN, on hold for over 30mins and nothing.

DELL does not want to take their useless laptops back and do not want to refund me policy. DELL-Admin>. I paid over $1200 for this laptop and at day 60 it stopped working. Now sitting on 2 laptops, neither works.

What type of service is this? Also, what is $1200 for a company like Dell? 0.000001% of their money.

I shipped my XPS to Dell for repair a week ago after the mobile tech could not get the touchpad working after replacing it. It arrived back about 30 minutes ago. Anyone see any possible issues with the packaging Dell used? It turns out that a plastic bag is not sufficient to protect the laptop when they just throw it into a cardboard box.

Dell is working on a new Firmware to address this and it should be released by the 1st or 2nd week of April.

I've been dealing with this since it was released - hopefully this fix will come soon!  It's been a nightmare and I just gave up getting things replaced

Good to hear that a new driver is coming which should fix this!  I just purchased an XPS 13 Plus.  The trackpad is now acting up, but I'm within my 30 day return window.

This is really disappointing because my prior XPS13 (purchased in 2015) had been flawless and an absolute tank.

Now I have to decide whether I wait for this patch as the return window expires, or just return it and find another product with another brand, or some other model from Dell.  Reliable 13" high end touch screens do not just pop up daily.

Update = After service, user installed the Touchpad firmware which fixed the Touchpad. DELL-Admin

My XPS 9320 plus has been with Dell for the touchpad repairs for 6 weeks now. No end in sight. Every day, I get an email from Dell telling me they have not started on the repairs still. So glad I paid for the "premium" support now.

Can we get more information about this firmware?  How will we know it has been released?  Will it auto-install?

I will try to update this thread once it gets released with a link to download it directly from the support site.

It will also be available through SupportAssist once it has been released.

If anyone would like to check for the latest updates for their system manually (in case for some reason I miss when it gets released),  the latest driver/fw updates for the XPS 9320 can be found at this link (please select your OS if you use this link), or by inputting a Service Tag at this link (to get more specific drivers/updates for your system config).

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any other questions. I will also still be trying to provide any updates that I can as I get them. This is still the latest update I have.

Just wanted to add to this thread for awareness. After only one day of active use I've had the exact same issue with a brand new XPS 13 9320 plus. The track pad gets stuck and continuously clicks, making it unusable without an external mouse.

This thread gives me zero confidence in dell support fixing the issue, and if I wait for an unproven firmware fix then my refund window will pass. I feel like my only option is to get a refund.

For the price, this is just poor and just completely puts me off buying Dell in the future.

I sure hope that fixes it. My touchpad is unusable because of this issue.
