I have Dell Inspiron 4th generation with the following specifications: Specifications: 8GB RAM Intel Graphics Card 500GB HDD Core i5 4th generation processor I am getting a lot of problems when I try to run graphics related softwares such as adobe photoshop etc. I am a graphic designer and doing freelancing and designing graphics for many websites. I am looking to upgrade the laptop. I need your suggestions which one would be best meeting my requirements. Thanks

The best in performance for Photoshop will be a Precision workstation with as much RAM and as large an SSD as you can afford. Second best would be the related XPS 15 or 17 models.

if your budget allows you to open up for more options,would suggest you to look for Dell inspiron 7567 or Dell Inspiron 7559 priced around INR 75 to 80k for base version. Rest all you to decide.

I am thinking of getting a second power adapter for my Precision 5550 which comes with a 130W Type-C AC Adapter. I searched Dell website, under Adapter section, there is only 90W Type-C Adapter available (https://www.dell.com/en-sg/shop/pfydresults/6220799?categoryId=2999). So my questions: 1. Will this undersized adapter cause any warning when it is plugged in? 2. Will laptop be charged slower? 3. Instead of using a second 90W AC adapter, if I charge laptop by a non-Dell monitor that has integrated docking station with up to 80W PD on Type-C, same questions again, will it cause any warning? will laptop be charged slower? @sh2sg The Precision 5550 is designed for a 90W power supply if it only has an Intel GPU, or 130W if it has an NVIDIA GPU. I don't have that specific system, but speaking from experience of other Dell and non-Dell laptops, undersized adapters very often do trigger a 'Slow USB charger' warning, and they can result in slower charging and even reduced performance.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes it does have nVidia GPU. Why is Dell doing that so? Selling only 90W adapter to 5550's users and that will most likely trigger warning and reduce performance? How about those users who have a broken adapter? if they request part replacement, will they also get the same 90W adapter? Or they have to spend more money to buy 130W PD docks?

@sh2sg I'm not sure why you're having trouble finding Dell's 130W USB-C adapter. That does seem like an error of some kind. But if you're in the US, here is a direct link to the correct adapter. If you had an actual warranty replacement, then Dell would replace it with the same part. Or if they accidentally sent a 90W adapter, then you would certainly be able to get it exchanged for the correct part.

So I contacted Dell, they didn't tell why they are not selling 130W AC adapter in my region (Singapore) but they can offer me a personal quotation to purchase the 130W AC adapter directly from spare part quotation team... is it normal?

@sh2sg I wouldn't call it 'normal' to not offer the appropriate power adapter through a regular online store, but I've purchased parts through Dell Spare Parts many times in the past. That's usually for parts that are not really meant to be replaced by the individual user, like replacement keyboards, display assembles, plastic chassis components, etc. But if Dell Spare Parts can get that part for you, then go for it.

What happens if you run a 5550 with nvidia graphics with a 90w charger? Or a 65w?

Hello if you don’t use the recommended battery wattage you will wind up getting a warning in the diagnostics or in the biopsy may say that it’s discharging

@APersonWithALaptop You'll likely see slower battery charging, and possibly reduced performance especially if running a workload that involves the CPU and NVIDIA GPU. And in very heavy load cases and/or in cases of significant power budget shortfalls like 65W for a system designed for double that amount, the system might drain the battery for auxiliary power even while connected to AC. But that's a last resort since that is of course not a sustainable way to operate, which is why the system will throttle performance first.

We have purchased over 10 of these Precision 5550's and I feel like I should add a few notes worth mentioning, speaking from experience. I've seen the 'slow charging' notification come up many times, even in cases where we are using the 130W provided AC Adapter. We have some folks that use the U2722DE and U2721DC monitors for powering these laptops and the slow charging message comes up, but they are typically provided with enough power to run all of their applications, including some resource intensive applications (i.e. AutoCAD).

Will a 240W adapter work with the Precision 5550 with a WD19TB?

I know I'm late to the party, but I've been running Precision 55xx laptops for 6 years now. I always purchase an addition 90W power supply (usually after market to get the smallest possible) to run on airplanes. Must aircraft onboard power systems don't let you charge with anything that requires over 90W. Even with the NVIDIA GPU and despite the BIOS warning (which can be turned off), the laptop will charge (maybe more slowly) to make it through those long flights.

Hi, I'm having trouble with the LDAP authentification available in SRM v6.3. Even after having configured the 'server.xml' file located in '\opt\APG\Web-Servers\Tomcat\Default\conf' with the AD informations I have, the AD authentification doesn't seem to work. I've heard that if you want to use an AD account in SRM, you have to create first this account in SRM, assign it a role, and a profile and then try to log in with this account. Is that right? Unfortunately, the existing logs in Centralized Management aren't making any mention of the problem. It just says that attempt to login to realm with the AD account has failed. There is no more information about this fail, so I don't get it... Am I missing something? Here is the part of my 'server.xml' file concerning the LDAP Authentification: connectionURL='ldap://IP-of-my-Primary-AD-Server:389' alternateURL='ldap://IP-of-my-Secondary-AD-Server:389' connectionName='CN=ServiceAccountToBrowseAD,OU=Organization01,OU=Organization02, DC=mycompany,DC=com' connectionPassword='Password-of-ServiceAccountToBrowseAD' userSearch='(sAMAccountName={0})' userBase='OU=OrganizationUser01,DC=mycompany,DC=com' referrals='follow' derefAliases='always' userSubtree='true' /> After having completed this file, I restart all the SRM services (just to be sure everything is ok) and I try to log in using an account located in the OU 'OrganizationUser01' of my AD (the account with which I try to log in has been previously created in SRM with default profile, and all the roles that exist in SRM).

The audit log doesn't show anything interesting (as I previously said only something like 'user nx failed authenticate' with no more explanation). That's why I was asking if anyone know a parameter to set in config files to enhance logs level. @gawanb: I have read-only access to the AD server and I'm sure about my service account (right sAMAccountName and right password) which I've tested with ADExplorer (from which I've got the AD string I put in server.xml file and in the SRM Profile created for my user). For now, I won't open a SR because I'm waiting for the update of the EMC dedicated Architect who's working on this project for my company. I've got an Dell Inspiron 530S that's out of warranty. I've had the BIOS message pop-up on system boot: 'Time-of-day not set - please run SETUP program. Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program. The system management hardware requires a reset. System setup configuration and the date/time requires attention after the reset. I assumed that this would be the CMOS battery dying as the system is now several years old. I bought a replacement battery and inserted it, double-checking it's fitted snugly into the board. However, I'm still getting the same message each time I boot. I'm able to re-sync the system clock once the OS has booted and it connects to the internet to get the time. I also tried loading all default options in the BIOS setup, but this didn't have any effect. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks

Possibly, during the process of changing out the battery, some users could accidentally damaged the battery holder and caused open circuits on motherboard. Sometimes, it could be minor case of not having proper connection. You can remove the battery again, check and clean the contacts on the battery holder. I would reinstall with another fresh battery to rule out battery issue. It doesn't hurt to reset cmos by remove the jumper from pin 2 and 3, connect it to pin 1 and 2 for 5 seconds, replace the jumper back to default location (pin 2 and 3). This process would reset your BIOS settings to factory, so you will have to change it back to match with your current settings.

Upon start up, go into BIOS and making change to update Date and Time. If the issue is persisted, replace the battery again as your new battery could be a bad one. Not everyone would have a multimeter handy, if you got one, check the new battery voltage before obtaining a replacement.
