I have noticed that a couple of our compellents were installed with a 5 wide stripe, and I always thought that the 9 wide was best for space consumption and to distribute the ios a little better and eliminate the hot spots.

Could someone shed some light on why a 5 wide would be chosen, except to possibly limit your exposure to drive loss and speedier rebuilds?
