I have been tasked with updating our environment that is using a very old Win7 WIM file.  Currently we restore it and apply all of the additional updates and software on top of it, but I would like to update this instead to restore going forward.  Given the time constraints, it is not possible to start the entire process of installing the base OS from scratch and modify with all our tweaks and customizations.  Can the existing WIM be used in this manner somehow to modify and capture, to be used to restore going forward?
