PE R710 RAID configuration
Hi,
I need some guidance on the below.
I purchased a PE R710 a couple of years ago and didn't think much about planning ahead (big mistake) and used the server as sold, especially from a RAID / disks setup.
Two years later, I want to extend HD storage and separate OS/programs from database/data which possibly will require reconfiguring the existing RAID array(s).
Current state
PowerEdge R710 - PERC 6i
Connector 0:
4 x 300 GB physical disks
1 Virtual Disk (0) including all 4 physical disks above
RAID 5 layout
Storage: OS, programs and data (Oracle databases)
Future state (desired)
PowerEdge R710 - PERC 6i
Connector 0:
4 x 300 GB physical disks
1 Virtual Disk (0) including all 4 physical disks above
RAID 0 or RAID 1 layout (recommendation?)
Storage: OS, programs only
Connector 1:
3 x 1.8 TB physical disks
1 Virtual Disk (1) including all 3 physical disks above
RAID 5 layout
Storage: Data only
How can I get from "Current State" to "Future State". It seems like any progress I make is met with limitations (learned that the PERC6i was limited to 2TB physical drives).
I do not know if the above is doable given potential other limitations.
I have also tried to create a new virtual drive - RAID 0 with a unique 1.8 TB drive, leaving everything else as is but OMSA would not let me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Fred
