Is there a "Best Practices" document for VMWare Essentials Plus?
I've got a brand new VNXe3100 staring me in the face that I have yet to turn on. I plan on using it for VMWare Essentials Plus which limits me to three dual processor hosts with up to 6 cores per processor. We will be moving our 12 physical servers to the new virtual environment which include the run of the mill MS server apps like, AD, print and file, SQL and Terminal Servers plus a couple of Linux servers for about 150 users. The SQL server handles a pretty light load at the moment. My VNXe has 12 300 GB SAS drives with dual SP's.
Has anyone found a Best Practices document from EMC that would give some suggestion on initial setup for this type of environment? With EMC positioning this box as the NAS for the SMB who does not have a disk admin, I would think that this document would be very helpful. I found this, but I'm looking for something more concrete.
And I also found this,
Using an EMC VNXe System with Vmware
But my question is NFS or VMFS. Is there a compelling reason for a SMB to choose one over the other? From what I've gleaned on the VMWare boards, performance differences between the two are negligible and I'm leaning towards NFS for the simplicity sake. If I go NFS, how should I provision RAID on the VNXe?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Best Regards
