Vista Scan 3400/3.73 software and Windows XP

I am new the forum. Recently, I upgraded to XP professional from Win ME and I have enjoyed it. Over the past couple of days, I have had to reinstall many programs and update drivers. During this process, I ran accross a problem with my scanner software. I have a UMAX Vistasan Astra 3400 using Vistascan 3.73 software. I thought the only thing I would need to do is update the driver so XP can communicate the scanner--wrong. I went to UMAX's website where it says I have to purchase thier 3.75 version so I can run the scanner on XP. No offense to the forum, but I think that is crazy! I am off two hundreths of a point in software versions, and I have to purchase the upgrade?! I was hoping Dell's site would have an upgrade to 3.75 but I cannot find it. Does anyone know if Dell has an upgrade on their website? I have searched but with no luck. If not, does anyone know if there is anything on the web were I can upgrade the software? Any help would be appreciated.
