XPS 8300, will no longer boot
I've been trying to add a new monitor to my XPS 8300 without success. Info on my progress and ultimate defeat by the lack of a BIOS upgrade is here.
Unfortunately, all this trial and error seems to have bricked my computer.
My system is an XPS 8300 i7, Windows 10 (latest release), Dell's AMD Radeon HD6450 graphics card, 12gb RAM, 500GB Samsung SSD primary booting Windows 10 plus two hard drives for storage.
I think the cause was a system reset of the BIOS et al and I'm at a loss as to how to fix it.
What happens after power on:
- Dell logo appears
- Bar across the bottom of the screen appears,
- Then nothing except a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen. No action on the SSD, no indication the computer's doing anything. Just whirring fans.
This system has been working perfectly fine as configured for several years. The only thing I tried to change was the monitor and graphics card - both changes abandoned. Can anyone point me out of this dilemma?
Thanks,
Ed
