Received 420 Today!
I thought people might want to hear some good news for a change. Generally -the 420 is so far so good with 1 minor issue. I received the system at 1 pm so I do feel like I got quite a bit accomplished today.
Components tested so far:
- Confirmed that a 425 W PSU is installed. This confirms that I ordered the system that started at 1699.00. I only mention this because even though I had ordered the 8800 GT, I was not completely sure if I ordered it the correct way ie. Choosing the third option to the right of four options and its base price is 1699.00. Even though I understand a 375 is supported by the 8800 GT I really wanted the 425 for my own peace of mind.
- Tested the Creative extreme music. It works generally most of the time but in an eight hour span I got that horrible squelch sound.
Does anyone know of the fix for this yet? I know I read about it somewhere last week. This card is working in combination the Dell 5.1 sub/surround system that has the "wireless" rear all in one speaker. So far I am impressed with the sound of them for what it is.
- Tested monitor: Dell 2208WFP. I was a little worried about the 22" monitors but it looks perfect so far. Wish me luck in this department:)
- Tested the Adobe software bundle. So far no complaints.
- Vista Sideshow a ok so far.
- Completed the first win update.
- Tested 19 in 1 bluthooth media reader. It works with my Sandisk Ultra II.
- Tested 948 printer. I copies scans and prints fine and as expected. The setup was a little strange when I loaded the software that came with the printer. At first it wouldn't let me print the test page at the end of the install. The print jobs would go to the queue and hang. When I printed another it would say device busy. I resolved this by clearing the print jobs and then printing as an admin user. It ended up working but took a small effort.
By the way, what is the general consensus? Should I disable the admin uda or what ever its called? If so and someone knows what I am talking about please tell me how to disable it.
-Tested WRT54g router and network in general. Security setups and such.
- Vista Media center and Xbox 360 I got it working enough to know the two systems are seeing each other. I have McAfee firewall so I did have to go to the advanced section and open up some ports.

So far I can see internet TV and such and just haven't messed around passed that
- Tested both optical drives. They both read fine, I have not tested write yet.
- Esata, well even though its a bummer to hear what I will eventually have to do to get this working. I think I will test that down the road sometime before the warranty runs out. Its just not that big of a priority right now for me. Mostly because I do not have a drive waiting to install.
Testing to be done Thursday;
- Install new driver on 8800gt. It looks like many of you recommend getting the driver direct from Nvidia.
- Test write capabilities of optical drives.
- Test All usb ports
- Test my PNY 8GB flash drive. Compare ready boost results.
- Load some games and test.
Can anyone think of anything that would be a good idea for me to check or test with all my hardware/software? I am pretty thorough and want to catch everything I possibly can.
