XPS 700 Question/Answer Thread
Let's see if we can't make this become the question and answer thread. Ultimately we would like answers from Dell and hopefully people can come to this thread to post their questions and conerns regarding the XPS 700, and the answers will come from Dell. But if anyone has a question concerning the XPS 700/710 and future generations and Dell doesn't respond then we either help each other out and provide an answer,or we just jump right into speculaion.
I know it has been a long haul. I am into my 11th month with no system! Good grief, I purchased the 30 inch Dell Flat Panel back in March for $2199 and today it is selling for $1299! Sadly mine has never been used! I purchased 2 BFG nVidia 7900GTX cards 8 months ago and they have NO use. Just sitting in the box! So I would like some answers. I have paid a hefty price and for someone to come along and tell me to just get rid of the machine it if you don't like it is very "unkind"and "insensitive".
I know that Dell is working towards a resolution. I believe that ChrisM has stuck these threads at the top, because the Dell leadership and engineers are looking at our feedback and concerns. They are looking because they realize that there is a wealth of information here. We are not wasting our time or Dell's by posting our questions and concerns. And it is not wrong to expect answers. Dell can handle our complaints and criticisms. Dell needs them.:smileyhappy:

I really don't know where to start David.....For them to kick your thread, yes "your thread" to the curb, me off.There have been so many people that have contributed to your original post.And there is no doubt that Dell has garnered every bit of information from the fruits of your forum.And now to kick you to the curb is yet another class act from Dell

ChrisM... they were missing for a period of time while you gathered them in the current config at the top of the Gen. Hardware section. I thought they'd all been pulled as well... but I can see that they're back.Thank you.657

Chris, I think the major problem with the threads is that we do not have a single thread stickied that we can continue to correspond with. We are unable to reply to ANY of the XPS stickied threads because you have locked them. So instead of a single thread at the top, we have multiple threads all over the front page. Often the same things are posted on multiple threads in order to get maximun exposure. This isn't needed if we can get a single thread stickied(like this one).:smileyhappy:657

One issue is the load/refresh time. Once a thread accumalates 500 or so post, the load/refresh time is very slow. Another point is sometimes the long threads deviate from the original point. Not all the time, just sometimes.

Chris,I understand the need to lock threads due to them being too long, but I also realize this is a very special situation. It would be nice to have a stickied thread we can all use until the next XPS series comes out. Most of us are waiting to see if Dell will release a 680i or better mobo that can swap into our XPS700 case. At that point, this whole thing will prbably end with us either being content or so frustrated we sell our chassis and build with a new case, PS amd mobo. Either way, it would be very appreciated if Dell could allow us to keep our communication going until then. Perhaps it will bring more exposure within Dell and let those working on a resolution with GB know the desire is still here for an upgradable mobo. Thanks Chris. (I appreciate you stickying this thread)Now we have a stickied thread again. Lets do our best to keep it focused and not respond to future flame attempts. My first question to Dell is when do you expect an answer of whether or not we will ever have an available 680i or better mobo for these systems? Thanks Chris for putting the "customer to customer" XPS700 blog back on the sticky list. You are a good sport. Plus, this thread has become a virtual corner bar for some of us ... if you close it down we've got nowhere to hang out! :smileysad:Seriously though, thanks for putting this back up top. In return we'll do our best to keep the thread (at least mostly? :smileytongue: ) constructive and on topic.Thanks also for agreeing to pass along jsrder's specific, detailed questions about future mobo compatibility to your technical sources.Everyone should keep those questions in mind as we pursue the goal of a 680 mobo for the XPS700. Being able to buy the XPS800 mobo from Dell parts won't do XPS700 owners much good if the connectors and cables don't fit. There are also important issues as jsrder has noted about warranty coverage, and how upgades might be handled (tech house call vs. self-install).Message Edited by Aivas47a on 12-06-200603:38 PM

I certainly owe Chris a thank you for making this thread sticky as I was very poignant in my messages imploring him to make this thread sticky again. So, Chris. Thank you! Back to the point... I am with pointguard's point (ha ha) about the availability of the 680i motherboards. This is what we all want to know. Also, as I have suggested before should they become available; XPS 700 owners should, at the very, very least be able to purchase them for cost. Personally based on all the misconceptions Dell produced for this machine they should provide free motherboard upgrades or offer a refund. Anyways, glad we can all discuss this together again.430
