We have mounted a file system on Linux and AIX host using NFSv4.

But when try to run the chown command, it fails, rest all commands are working fine.

Exact error:

We have issues with ‘chown’ and ‘chgrp’. Please find below test we performed on AIX and Linux platform to test NFSv4 file systems.

AIX –

mount -o vers=4 GEDM1104:/root_vdm_28/testnfsv4/01q /nfsv4/test

geqich01:/ # ls -ltr /nfsv4/test

total 0

-rw-r--r--    1 root    system            0 Nov  7 12:03 testf4.data

•        geqich01:/ # chown nfsv4.system /nfsv4/test/testf4.data

chown: /nfsv4/test/testf4.data: Invalid argument

•        geqich01:/ # chnfsdom

Current local domain: genfsv4001.domain

•        geqich01:/ # cat /etc/hosts|grep -i GEDM1104

192.168.196.30 GEDM1104

•        geqich01:/ # cat /etc/passwd|grep -i nfsv4

nfsv4:!:300:0::/home/nfsv4:/usr/bin/ksh

geqich01:/ #

Linux –

mount -t nfs -o rw,nfsvers=4,nosuid,_netdev,tcp,bg,soft,timeo=600,retrans=2,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 192.168.132.162:/root_vdm_28/testnfsv4/02q /nfs4_tmp

•        [root@geqiea01 folder1]# chown nfsv4:root testfile1

chown: changing ownership of `testfile1': Invalid argument

[root@geqiea01 folder1]# chown 300:0 testfile1

chown: changing ownership of `testfile1': Invalid argument
