Compellent CT-SC030 5.6.3

Replaced a failed ST3500320NS revision XR1A with identical model ST3500320NS revision SN06 bought from a 3rd party.  New drive shows up in unassigned pool but the Compellent will not accept this drive into the 7k assigned pool as a spare and only gives  option to classify it as an external device.  Is there some way to make this cooperate?  Firmware? or do replacement drives have to come from a Compellent source?
