Dimension 4700 CPU upgrade compatibility question
Hi - I have been researching other threads here and think I have this upgrade thing figured out, but want to confirm before I do something that won't work.
I have a Dimension 4700 running Pentium CPU 530 (3.0 gHz / 800 FSB / 1 MB L2 Cache) and BIOS version A05.
From other posts it seems that if I upgrade the bios to A10 I should be able to run Intel Pentium CPU 670 which is a 3.8 gHz chip with 800 FSB and 2 MB L2 Cache -- even though those chips are labeled with a Program Compatibility Guide value of 04B and my current CPU is labeled with a Program Compatibility Guide value of 04A. Is that correct?
I understand that I may need to upgrade the Power Supply and cooling since the 670 chip is a 125W chip and the 530 chip uses 84W of power.
Is that right?
I'm mostly responding to info in this thread, but some of it's a little over my head
