Error 0200:Failure Fixed Disk 0
I am working on a Dell Inspirion 2500 Notebook with Windows 2000 Pro. The 10gig IBM Hard Drive is failing and I am trying to replace it with a 60gig Seagate ST960815A.
The new drive is seen correctly in the BIOS, I have updated the BIOS to the latest one.
When I try to boot I get an "Error 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0" - continue or - setup. Go into the BIOS and the drive shows up correctly.
If I run the Dell diagnostics on the new drive it is not being seen.
If I install the old hard drive the "Error 0200" goes away. The old hard drive is seen in the Dell Diagnostic routine but it fails the surface scan.
I believe that the old hard drives interface is ATA-5 and the new one is PATA. Should this make a difference???
Is the new hard drive compatable with this machine???
Thanks for Your Time.
