DVD+R Dual Layer Problems with Philips BD-RE BDD1001

I have been having problems with burning DVD+R Dual Layer discs with this drive. The discs are Memorex branded with speeds up to 8x. Roxio 9.1 burns at 2.4X max and returns a read error while burning. Strangely, the discs are complete and usable. Windows Vista has issues when burning data discs. Burns very slow with errors. Discs are unusable. The drive burns single sided DVD+Rs and CDs flawlessly.

Has anyone tried DVD+R DL discs in this drive? The specs in the online manual state this is a fully supported format. Is could it be a Roxio issue? I performed all the steps on the Roxio support site. There seems to be no firmware update for this drive.

Thanks in the advance for the help.

Yeah having the same problem more or less, wring to Ritek dvd+r DL at 2.4x 1 disk errored but plays fine using nero 9, the 2 or 3 other disks i tried are coaster, always when it is burning layer 2.

I used the same media on a much older lite-on dive in my old 2nd gen XPS and they all burned flawless without error no problem.

I was thinking maybe a media incompatability, these disks were a little older.  I'm getting a second batch here soon and will update with results

I was having problems on my sony recorder  rdr-vxd655  connected to my hd 46 inch tv. I was using memorex dL and could not finish

writing to the disk,   errors I have found out from the avs forum that memorex is a very lousy brand and to try and stay away from them, I tried

using verbatim but still had problems  I have heard to stay away from DL they are not dependable media .( And I just bought $62.00 worth of

them :emotion-12: I have tried 5 times and all failed. I haven't tried them on our  xps420's yet but I will give it a go and see what happens

would love to avoid them, and have up until recently, problem is i have 7-8 gb single files Iwant to back up and dl iso's to burn *shrug* though it's funny with HD prices it's cheaper per GB to just write them to a 2nd HD for storage

A second HDD is not a viable option. I want to create custom DVDs to send out to family and friends. I don't want to be limited to 2 hrs of video. (I have tapes of my 13 year old from the age of three) I tried writing data discs as a test. I was thinking it was a Memorex media issue. I didn't try video after creating coasters. Has anyone tried video with success?

I tried a video DVD with no success. I'm still leaning toward Memorex media because 4.7 Gb discs burn well. I'm going to have to buy another brand and attempt to burn again.

It was definitely the Memorex media. :emotion-12: I bought a few Nexxtech discs at the Circuit City liquidation. Burned flawlessly. Now, I am the proud owner of 20 Memorex coasters.
