Blu ray plays half the movie, then stops.

I just bought the Inspiron 7010 with Blu ray ad Cyberlink Power DVD DX.   I purchased Night at the Musium, 2 disc Blu Ray set and the movies stop less than half way through.  The screen goes blank then says "Loading" and just hangs there.  I can put in a DVD and it plays just fine.

I also noticed that CD playback quality is terrible, badly distorted.  But if I rip the songs, the media playback is fine.  I don't know if these two problems are related or not, but I would like to at least be able to see Blu Ray movies.

Hi Emcquillen,

Since your system is new, my suggestion would be to contact Dell about replacing the drive.

Thanks for the reply.

As I reread my original message, I realized I forgot to ask the question.  Sorry about that.

Does this problem sound like a hardware concern or a software issue?  If it is a software issue, I have to drive an hour to return it to Best Buy and do without my computer for goodnees know how long.  If it's a software issue, I could download an update, patch or new program.

I suspect a hardware problem. Possibly the laser is quitting. Since the drive starts playing the blu-ray movie properly, that to me rules out a software issue.

Sorry Best Buy is so far away. Maybe it would be possible to call them and have them order the part, then they could do the repair while you wait. I don't know how they work but if they put me in charge of customer service, that's what I would do. :emotion-5:
