Dimension 4600 - Jumper setting for a single 3.5" Primary Hard Disk
Hi,
May I know if Dimension 4600 suppoer CSEL (Cable Select) Protocol for the mster hardisk?
I have need to install only one HD (Western Digital 3.5" - 40 pin HD
What should be the correct jumper setting to enable it to boot?
Is it Cable Select or Master Slave ?
This HD should be connected to the Black connector (Drive 1 label at the Ribbon ) at the ribbon, am I right

Pretty much every Dell that talks to 40 pin drives will support master/CS/slave settings. If you are trying to install the disk as the primary on most Western Digitals you can just take all the jumpers off.
If you see the drive detect in BIOS you've got the jumpers set properly but if you have multiple drives in the system that isn't enough to make it the boot drive. The jumper doesn't have anything to do with boot order, you'll need to go to your BIOS on startup and re-order the drive to put it as the first bootable device.

The primary [Boot/Master] IDE hard drive is connected to the 'Black' connector located at the end of the grey 80 wire data cable.
The 'Jumpers' are set to CSEL [Cable Select]
