Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

Please share the operating system installed. Try releasing the residual charge from the system, here are the steps:

  • Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the battery and AC Adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter. Try to restart the computer and check.

I recommend you to run on-board diagnostics on the system to confirm hardware functionality, here are the steps:

  • Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F12' key to enter the 'Boot Menu'.
  • Use the 'Down Arrow' key to highlight the 'Diagnostics' option. Press the 'Enter' key.
  • The diagnostics will begin. Please note the exact error message/code and validation code, if any appears on the screen.
  • You may also refer to the video on the link http://dell.to/17DCL0R for more information.

Also, share the screenshot of the Device Manager, if there is any device with a yellow bang on it. Here are the steps to access Device Manager:

  • Press the key combination of 'Windows Logo' key + 'R' key to open 'Run' dialog box.
  • Type in 'devmgmt.msc' and click 'OK'.
  • The 'Device Manager' windows will appear.

To test if the USB ports are working fine, try connecting a external USB device (Flash Drive or External Hard Drive) to all the USB ports one at a time. Check if it gets detected and is accessible or not.

Please share the results, it will help me to assist you further.

Running Win 7 Pro 64bit i5CPU 8 Gig Ram 500Gb SSHD,

No problem devices in device manager, All usb ports including usb/esata work well,

Have done all you have suggested & rerun extended test with the same results,

Gone to support, drivers by scan and all drivers OK. Latest bios installed and esata enabled.

No problems with older version of support assistant scan, New version brings up the problem in original post.

I also have an e6520 i7 Win 7 pro 64 bit etc same problem after new Support Assistant,

I believe it is a false failure notice due to a glitch in the new support assistant extended scan,

Hi,

Thanks for trying the steps and replying.

Looks like the hardware of your computer is fine and as you said it could be the issue with the new support assistant scan. I will surely inform this to the concerned team. Please continue using your computer normally as there is no issues with it.

The only other issue may be the driver for the usb composite device is not a Dell driver but a Microsoft driver. By the way the usb composite device is the esata/usb port.
