Dell wireless card and 2wire sbc router
Greetings -
We have a 2Wire router set up through SBC yahoo dsl connected with a Dell desktop and cable. We also have an Inspiron 8100 that has a wireless connection via a 2Wire pcmcia card. Neither the desktop or the 8100 have any issues connecting with the internet. We have recently purchased an Inspiron 9400 with a Dell Wireless 1390 minicard. I have setup the 9400 and can see the 2Wire router (provided I do not shut down the laptop cuz I have to re-enter the wep/wpa key, etc.). I am not able to get beyond this point. The Client IP address is 169.xx and the Gateway IP address is not available. I tried to renew the IP address and get an error message stating... windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: renewing your IP address. contact the person who manages your network.
I called SBC and after many "thank yous" they told me to contact Dell and ask for a "client manager that connects with 2Wire." I have searched all over and am not able to find any such thing. I do not want to purchase any hardware, as I am not sure if I need anything else. I would simply put the 2Wire card in the 9400 and retire the 8100 but the card is too big for the slot... (This is confusing to me cuz I though these slots were universal in size??).
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
