Installing Nec 1300a DVD Burner
My new burner just arrived and I'm already having problems.... aaaagghhhhhh.
There's no manual so I'm winging it. I read that it was very easy to install, just disconnect the old cd burner and reconnect everything to the new unit. Hah! I tried that and all I got was a frozen blue screen with the big Dell logo on it and some beeping (didn't think to count the beeps).
My setup is a Dimension 4400 / Pentium 4 / 1.70Ghz / 512 Ram / WinXP Home. Bay 1 is the original cd drive used for reading/playing cds only. Bay 2 is my old cd-r burner. I wanted to replace the old burner with this new model for cdr/rw and dvdr/rw; is this what I should be doing? Do I need to switch the master/slave hookup (I assume the master is the original cd drive)? Should I be downloading some drivers or something before I try to install the hardware?
What am I doing wrong?
