Dell notebook owners have reported that they cannot adjust the internal LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen brightness on systems shipped with an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel.
They have confirmed it's not affected by moving the brightness slider in the display settings or by pressing the Fn hotkey and changing the screen brightness in the system BIOS does not resolve this issue either.
This issue is only been seen on systems running the Windows 10 Operating system up to version 1803, build 17134.
(The issue affects Alienware, XPS, Latitude and Precision mobile systems. It has been confirmed on, but is not limited to the following systems.)
Your system is working as designed. There was no capability for changing the screen brightness in older versions of the Windows 10 operating system.
Brightness control for OLED screens was introduced in Windows 10 version 1809, build 17763 on November 2018.
Updating your operating system to the latest version of Windows 10 will resolve this issue.
