1: Check the Available Disk Space

Check the amount of available disk space on the ESXi service console with the disk free command:

# df -h

2: Write VM-Support to a Different Location

The vm-support script can be issued with the option to write to a specified path like a vmfs datastore.

# vm-support -w /vmfs/volumes/datastore

3: Configure a Syslog

If you already have a syslog server created, you can send all new logs to a syslog server by configuring ESXi. (Note: Existing logs are not sent to the newly created syslog server.)

  1. Open VMware vSphere Client and select the ESXi host.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. In the software section, click Advanced Settings.
  4. Click Syslog.
  5. For Syslog.Remote.Hostname, enter the hostname or IP of the syslog server.
