Symptoms

Install more RAM to boot the Dell™ PowerEdge™ 300 Server to the Dell™ OpenManage™ Server Assistant (DOSA) version 6.x.

CAUTION: Before you perform any of the following steps, read the Precautionary Measures warning for your personal safety and to prevent damage to the computer system from electrostatic discharge.

If the PowerEdge 300 is ordered with 128MB of RAM or more it will ship with DOSA 6.x not DOSA 5.4.2. If you ordered a PowerEdge 300 with 128MB or more and took out some of the memory reducing the total amount of RAM below the required 128MB, you will have to add memory back to the server to return it to the 128MB minimum or greater. The PowerEdge 300 should boot to the DOSA 6.x once the 128MB minimum is met or exceeded.

NOTE: Before you remove the computer cover, perform the following steps in the sequence indicated.

Precautionary Measures

CAUTION:  Before you open your system, read the following caution for your personal safety and to prevent damage to the system from electrostatic discharge (ESD).

FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY AND PROTECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT:

  1. Turn off your computer and all devices.
  2. Ground yourself by touching an unpainted metal surface at the back of the computer before touching anything inside your computer. While you work, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface on the computer to dissipate any static electricity that might harm internal components.
  3. Disconnect the power cable to your computer, and then press the power button to ground the system board.
  4. Disconnect any devices connected to the computer, including the monitor, from their electrical outlets to reduce the potential for personal injury or shock.
  5. Disconnect any telephone or telecommunication lines from the computer.

After you remove or replace parts in the system, observe the following notice to prevent damage to the system:

NOTICE: Make sure that all other system cables are connected before connecting the computer to its electrical outlet.

The PowerEdge™ 300 can be ordered with less that 128MB of RAM installed.

When booting the PowerEdge 300, you may receive the following error message:

This version of the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant requires a minimum of 128MB of system memory. Please use the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant version 5.4.2 for this PowerEdge system.

Dell OpenManage Server Assistant (DOSA) version 6.x requires 128MB of RAM to boot. However, the PowerEdge 300 can be ordered with less that 128MB of RAM installed. Therefore, PowerEdge 300 servers configured with less than 128MB of RAM come bundled with a limited version of DOSA 5.4.2. The limited version includes drivers for the PowerEdge 300 and can boot with less than 128MB of memory.
