Prerequisites
CAUTION:To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane.
CAUTION:Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before you remove the drive so that you can reinstall them in the same location.
NOTE:The procedure to remove the backplane is similar for all backplane configurations.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the system cover.
Removing the drive backplane cover:
Press and push the blue touch points to disengage the drive backplane cover.
Remove the cover from the chassis.
Removing the air shroud:
Hold the air shroud at both the ends, and lift it from the system.
Removing a drive carrier:
Press the release button to open the drive carrier release handle.
Holding the drive carrier release handle, slide the drive carrier out of the drive slot.
NOTE:If you are not replacing the drive immediately, install a drive blank in the empty drive slot to maintain proper system cooling.
Observe and disconnect the drive backplane cables from the connector on the system board and backplane.
Removing the drive backplane:
Press the release tab to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the system.
Lift and pull the drive backplane out of the system.
NOTE:To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure that you move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips before removing the backplane.
Removing the PERC card:
Pull the blue pull tag to raise the lever up on the PERC card.
NOTE For the H730P MX(non-RAID) card, pull the two blue pull tags to raise the lever up. Rest of the procedure to remove the PERC card remains identical to HBA330 MX (non-RAID) card.
NOTE The MX740c supports both HBA330 MX or H730P MX PERC card.
Holding the blue pull tag, lift the PERC card away from the system.
Installing the PERC card:
Pull the blue pull tag to raise the lever up on the PERC card.
Align the connector on the PERC card with the connector on the system board.
NOTE The procedure to install the HBA330 MX or a H730P MX PERC card is the same.
NOTE The MX740c supports both HBA330 MX or H730P MX PERC card.
Align the guides on the PERC card with the slots on the system.
Press the PERC card to firmly seat in the system board connector.
Close the lever on the PERC card.
Installing the drive backplane:
Align the slots on the drive backplane with the guides on the system.
Slide the drive backplane into the guides and lower the backplane until the blue release tab clicks into place.
Connect the drive backplane cables to the connectors on the system board and backplane.
Installing the drive carrier:
Slide the drive carrier into the drive slot and push until the drive connects with the backplane.
Close the drive carrier release handle to lock the drive in place.
Installing the air shroud:
Align the tabs on the air shroud with the slots on the chassis.
NOTE:Route the cables properly to prevent the cables from being pinched or crimped.
Lower the air shroud into the system until it is firmly seated.
Installing the drive backplane cover:
Align the tabs on the drive backplane cover with the guide slots on the system.
Slide the cover until it is securely seated.
Replace the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet, and then power on the system.
