Locate Your Data Protection Device's Service Tag

Service Tags (ST), Express Service Codes (EX), mini-Enterprise Service Tags, Enterprise Service Tags, Express Service Tags (EST), Product Serial Number Tags (PSNT), or Software IDs (SWID) are unique product identifiers found on a barcoded label on your device and/or from the product software. The physical label is attached to a pull-tab, commonly referred to as a luggage tag or information tag.

Though these tags may be called by different names, they all serve the same purpose: helping you access Dell support, check warranty status, and receive updates. When contacting Dell Support, providing this code ensures your call is routed to the right team for personalized assistance.

Depending on the Data Protection Device, the unique identifier may be found on the front or rear of the system by pulling out the information tag. Alternatively, the information might be accessible through the management interface or command line. For software-only products, cases may be opened through the Site ID or UCID on Online Support or by calling into support with your site ID or UCID.

Where to Find Your Tag on Dell Data Protection Products

To receive the best support experience, it's essential to identify your Dell data protection product using its unique Service Tag or Serial Number. This article provides detailed instructions for locating the tag on each product type.

Whether you're submitting a support request or managing your inventory, these resources will help you quickly find the information you need.

Avamar

The Serial Number for Avamar systems uniquely identifies the physical hardware for a specific node and is required when spare parts must be changed for that node. The method for obtaining serial numbers varies by generation:

Generation 4 and 4S Nodes:

Avamar Datastore Generation 4 hardware consists of Dell R510 and R710 nodes. To retrieve the serial number on a node, log in as root and use the command: /usr/bin/ipmitool fru print 0 | grep "Product Asset Tag" | sed "s/^.*: *\(.*\)_100.*$/\1/"

To retrieve serial numbers from all nodes in the grid, run the following command as admin user on the utility node: mapall --noerror --user=root --nodes=all+ --quiet 'hostname -i; ipmitool fru print 0|grep "Product Ass"| sed "s/^.*: *\(.*\)_100.*$/\1/"'

Generation 4T Nodes:

From the node in question, run: avsysreport chassis-info | grep "Serial"

To see all nodes from the utility node: mapall --noerror 'avsysreport chassis-info | grep "Serial"'
