This video shows how to replace the wireless card in an Inspiron 16 Plus 7640. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals. Then enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the B key and then press the power button. The computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed.
Press any key to proceed, the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. To begin, loosen the two captive screws. Then remove the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the top left at the hinge and then continue to work on the sides to open the base cover. Lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Remove the screw that secures the wireless-card bracket in place. Lift the bracket off the wireless card. Disconnect the antenna cables from the card. Slide the card out of the slot and lift it away the system board. To install the wireless card, connect the white antenna cable to the main connector marked with a white triangle. Connect the black antenna cable to the auxiliary connector marked with a black triangle. Locate the notch on the wireless card. Align the notch with the tab on the slot and slide it in.
Replace the screw to secure the bracket and card in place. Place and snap the base cover on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Tighten the two captive screws and then replace the seven screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. With the computer assembled, connect the power adapter. Press the power button to power on the computer to exit from Service Mode. Please note: The computer will only turn on if the power adapter is connected.
