In this video, you will learn how to perform software RAID alert monitoring on Microsoft Windows operating system using iDRAC Service Module.
Before you begin, ensure to install iDRAC Service Module and enable the Software RAID feature on the host operating system.
To begin the process, log in to iDRAC using your credentials. To ensure that the iSM is active and running, click iDRAC Settings and select Settings from the drop-down list.
Then, in the Settings tab, expand iDRAC Service Module Setup, and make sure that Connection Status on Host OS is Running. Now, click Configuration and select BIOS Settings from the drop-down list.
Expand SATA Settings and ensure that Embedded SATA is in RAID Mode. When the embedded SATA is in the RAID Mode, the software RAID feature in iSM is enabled by default.
iSM logs the software RAID alerts in the iDRAC Lifecycle Log and operating system log. To view the software RAID alerts in the iDRAC Lifecycle log, click Maintenance, and select Lifecycle Log from the drop-down list.
You will see that the software RAID alert is logged in the Lifecycle Log. Now, to view the software RAID alerts in the operating system log, open Event Viewer from the start menu.
In the Event Viewer window, expand Windows Logs in the left pane and click System. Notice that the software RAID alert is logged in the operating system log.
By default, the software RAID alert source name in the operating system log is iDRAC Service Module-SWRAID. However, when the Replicate Lifecycle Log in OS Log feature is enabled in iSM, the software RAID alerts are logged as Lifecycle Controller Log.
iSM monitors the alerts every 30 minutes, and a maximum of 50 alerts are logged per day. For more information about iDRAC Service Module, visit dell.com/idracmanuals.
