Reinstall Linux

Need to reinstall Windows on your Dell PC?

Download and install the Dell OS Recovery Tool to create a USB recovery drive. Use this recovery drive to reinstall the version of Windows that came with your PC.

Select the version of the Dell OS Recovery Tool that matches the chipset of the computer you are using to create the USB recovery drive.

To determine the chipset of your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key, then type “system” and select System information in the search results.
  2. On the System -> About page, find the System type field. If it reads x64-based processor, you will select the Windows x64 version of the Dell OS Recovery Tool download. If it reads ARM-based processor, select the ARM64 version.

Unable to download on Windows 10 S
We detect that your PC is running Windows 10 S, which does not support the download of the Dell OS Recovery Tool. Please try again from a PC running Windows 7, 8.1, or 10.

How it works:

  1. Download and install the Dell OS Recovery Tool. Note that this requires a minimum of version 4.8 of Microsoft .NET Framework to be installed on the computer.
  2. Launch the tool and enter the Service Tag for the device that will be reinstalling the OS.
  3. Select the OS you’d like to install. The OS Recovery Tool will create your recovery drive.
  4. Install the OS using the newly created recovery drive. This will remove all data and software from the hard drive and restore the factory-installed OS.

Note: If KB5025885 was installed on the system and you added the manual steps as recommended by the Microsoft security advisory, Dell OSRI (streaming and ISO download) may not boot successfully. For details on the Windows reinstallation impact, read the article.
