Dell Update Package

A Dell Update Package (DUP) is a self-contained executable in a standard package format that updates a single software element on the system.

Using DUPs, you can update a wide range of system components simultaneously and apply scripts to similar sets of Dell
systems to bring the system components to the same version levels.

You can use DUPs to:
  • Apply an individual update to a system by using an interactive command line interface (CLI).
  • Install device drivers in interactive and non-interactive modes.
  • Execute multiple updates on the system by using a script comprised of non‑interactive commands that you write using the CLI feature.
  • Leverage your operating system’s scheduling and software distribution utilities to apply updates remotely to any number of systems.

From the Windows host operating system (managed node), run the Dell Update Package for Windows and follow the instructions on the update wizard.

From the Linux host operating system (managed node), run the Dell Update Package for Linux from the shell prompt. Follow the instructions displayed on the console.

For more information on using Dell Update Packages, reference Dell Update Packages Version 7.2 User's Guide.

For more general information, see Dell Remote Access Controller - DRAC / iDRAC.

Non-packaged Update

To use the non-packaged update, download the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable USB flash drive, then boot the system to the USB flash drive and run the program.

Installation:

NOTE: You must provide a DOS bootable media, such as a USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
  1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file.
  2. Update the name of the file to DOS recognizable format (8.3). If you do not update the filename to 8.3 format, the filename will be truncated to 8.3 format.
  3. Copy the file to the bootable device.
  4. Boot the system to DOS by using the bootable device.
  5. Run the executable under DOS. Follow the instructions provided by the flash utility.
For more information, see Dell Remote Access Controller - DRAC / iDRAC.

iDRAC Web GUI Update

Update from the iDRAC Web GUI:
  1. Open the iDRAC6 Web-based interface and log in to the remote system.
  2. Click Remote Access, and then click the Update tab.
  3. In the Upload/Rollback (Step 1 of 3) page, click Browse, or type the path to the firmware image that you downloaded from Dell Support or the System Services recovery image. The default firmware image name is firmimg.d6.
  4. Click Upload. The following message will be displayed until the process is complete: "File upload in progress...".
  5. On the Status (page 2 of 3) page, you will see the results of the validation performed on the image file you uploaded.
  6. Click Update to start the update process.
  7. In the Updating (Step 3 of 3) page, you will see the status of the update.

For more information, see Dell Remote Access Controller - DRAC / iDRAC.

RACADM CLI Update

Using a tool called RACADM (Remote Access Controller Administrator) you can update the firmware via a command line.

The comand to update firmware is racadm fwupdate -p -u -d <path>

For more information, reference the RACADM Command Line Interface for DRAC page.
