SymACL: Error in client/server configuration: Symmetrix access control denied the request
Summary: SymACL error in a client/server configuration: Symmetrix access control denied the request.
Symptoms
Attempting SYMACL changes results in the error:Symmetrix access control denied the request
Checking the host's Access Control List (ACL) rights in the 'symacl list -v' command shows that the host has "Admin Priv = YES" rights.
No errors are seen in the SYMAPI logs.
In storsrvd daemon log, we see the only hint of an error:
<Info > [4675 SESS 1161] Oct-26 2:21:13.859 : ANR0302I API Request code 2332 complete, processing status 2545 (SYMAPI_C_ACCESS_DENIED)
Cause
This issue occurred because the customer had the environment variable SYMCLI_ACCESS_PIN set with the incorrect PIN value. This is seen in the 'symcli -def' command output. When you enter the incorrect PIN, you are informed that the incorrect pin is used and the command fails. However, when the PIN value is used from this variable, no such information is provided and the generic "Symmetrix access control denied the request" error occurs.
Resolution
Workaround: Remove the SYMCLI_ACCESS_PIN variable or update it with the correct ACL PIN value.
