Enabling Server Initiated Discovery In Dell Technologies OpenManage Enterprise.
Pre-Requisite
1. Register OM Enterprise in Doman Name Space (DNS)
The option to enable Server-Initiated Discovery option can be accessed in OpenManage Enterprise under the Monitor section.
Process and Procedure can be accessed by clicking the question mark on the upper right section of OpenManage Enterprise for reference if needed.
Process:
1. Log in to the OpenManage Enterprise TUI (VM Guest Console)
2. Select Configure Server Initiated Discovery and press Enter.
3. Click the option to Enable Server Initiated Discovery, and confirm by selecting the Apply option.
4. Enter the administrator password for OpenManage Enterprise to confirm.
5. Close the confirmation dialog.
Confirm that the corresponding DNS entries are added for OpenManage Enterprise in the DNS server.
Non-Secure and Secure updates are required to be enabled on DNS for OpenManage Enterprise to modify DNS automatically.
If this is not possible, the entries can be added manually into DNS. To reference these entries, check the User Guide section and copy and paste the corresponding settings.
DRACs announce on the network if the following setting is present:
1. Log in to the DRAC Web UI
2. Click IDRAC settings > Connectivity > Network> IDRAC auto-discovery
3. Default option is On for Auto Discovery. To announce a packet, click the setting on and off, otherwise a packet is sent once every 24 hours.
To allow OM Enterprise to discovery the DRACs,
1. Open the OpenManage Enterprise Web UI.
2. Select Monitor then click Server Initiated Discovery.
3. To Import a list of service tags and credentials, click the Import option, then Download Sample CSV.
4. Modify as needed, then import the CSV to OM Enterprise.
5. A list is populated.
6. When a DRAC sends a packet on the network that it is available, it notifies OpenManage Enterprise of its presence.
7. A job is scheduled to discovery the DRAC and adds it to the list of discovered devices.
8. Different job statuses are available and can be filtered accordingly.
Error Scenarios:
1. If DNS does not allow dynamic update, or if there are issues connecting to one or more DNS servers an error is generated on the UI when enabling Server Initiated Discovery.
2. You can manually add DNS entries and find them using the Help option in the OM Enterprise Web UI or by seeing the User's guide.
