Instructions
Locking-Id mismatch errors are often seen when the Serial Number on the License File does not match the Serial Number of the Data Domain Appliance the File was applied to.
Therefore, the Instructions on this Article are intended for users who would like to correct Licenses activated with an incorrect Serial Number.
An example of 'Locking-id mismatch' is when a license entitled for an Appliance with Product Serial Number Tag (PSNT): APX00123456789 is activated to an incorrect Locking ID such as: XYZ00123456789
Or if a user attempts to apply a Data Domain License File, which is entitled and generated for Serial Number: APX00123456789 to another Data Domain Appliance with a different Product Serial Number Tag (PSNT) such as: APX00987654321
Both these scenarios cause the License Update to fail with 'Locking-id mismatch' errors as referenced in the image below:
Pre-requisite:
The following License Updates should be permitted for Partners and Internal users who have access to the Software Licensing Central (SLC). And, for End-Customers who have been added as the Registered Site Coordinator on the Site IDs associated with the affected License Certificates.
Note: External users who require access to the Software Licensing Central (SLC) should register for a Support Account on https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us. And Internal users who require access to the Software Licensing Central (SLC) can submit a MyAccess Ticket Internally.
Instructions to correct Licenses with Locking ID mismatch:
The 'Regenerate Keys' action can be used to update the Serial Number assigned to a License File without changing the Machine Name associated with the Transaction.
Note: Users can engage the World-Wide Licensing Support Team as per the Instructions outlined below, if they experience any issues with the Rehost or Regenerate Key Process,

Instructions to correct Licenses with Locking ID mismatch:
- Begin by retrieving the License Certificate or File for the affected Data Domain License or Certificate from Software Licensing Central (SLC) >> Licenses >> View Certificate Page.
Note: The user can retrieve this information by using either of these search criteria’s: 'Machine Name' or the 'Locking ID' to retrieve specific Licenses or Certificates that match the search query.
Also, the user can use other search criteria’s such as 'License Authorization Code (LAC)', the 'Transformational License Agreement ID (TLA ID)' or the 'Company' to retrieve all activated certificates that match the Company ID or License Authorization Code (LAC).
Note: A users visibility and access to certain Entitlements, Certificates, or Licenses may be limited or restricted based on their level of access to the corresponding Sites or Company ID associated with the Transaction.

Note: A users visibility and access to certain Entitlements, Certificates, or Licenses may be limited or restricted based on their level of access to the corresponding Sites or Company ID associated with the Transaction.
- On the View Certificate Page, the user can select the 'Rehost' or the 'Regenerate Keys' action (as per the requirement) against the affected Licenses or Certificates.
Rehosting Licenses and Certificates:
The 'Rehost' action can be used if the Machine Name and Locking IDs associated with the License Certificate and File are incorrect and requires update. The 'Rehost' option can also be used if a user wants to completely transfer all the licenses and certificates from one Machine Name and Locking ID to another Machine Name and Locking ID.- Selecting the Rehost Option takes the user to the 'Select a Target Machine' Page as referenced below. Here, the Customer can either select the appropriate Machine Name and Locking ID (from the list of existing Machine Results) or they can create a New Machine Name (which is generally the Data Domain Serial Number) they require the Licenses and Certificates rehosted or transferred to.
- The next page should take the user to the 'Enter Rehost Details' Page where the user is required to specify the Quantities and the correct Target Machine Details or Locking ID in the PowerProtect DD Serial Number Field along with the Data Domain OS (DDOS) Version the licenses are intended for.
- On the proceeding 'Review Rehost Details' Page, the user can review the Transaction and return any changes before committing the rehost process.
- If the user selects the Rehost Products option; then the next page should indicate completion of the rehost process from the Incorrect (Source) Serial Number to the new, corrected, or updated (Target) Serial Number.
Here, the user can download a copy of the updated License File to reapply to the Data Domain Appliance. Also, the Licensing System automatically sends a copy of the Transaction Summary and the updated License File to the user processed this request.
Regenerating Licenses and Certificates:
The 'Regenerate Keys' action can be used to update the Serial Number assigned to a License File without changing the Machine Name associated with the Transaction.
- Selecting the 'Regenerate Keys' Option takes the user to the 'Verify Machine Details' Page (as shown in the image below). Here the Customer can only edit, change, or replace the Locking ID (Serial Number) in the PowerProtect DD Serial Number Field to match the appropriate Appliance Serial Number they require the Licenses reassigned or regenerated for.
- On the next 'Review' Page, the user can reassess the Transaction before committing to the regeneration process.
- If the user commits to 'Regenerate Keys' on the Review Page, then that should complete the regeneration process as shown in the image below. Upon the completion of the regeneration process, the user can download a copy of the updated License File to reapply to the Data Domain Appliance. And, also, the Licensing System automatically sends a copy of the Transaction Summary and the updated License File to the user processed this request.
Note: Users can engage the World-Wide Licensing Support Team as per the Instructions outlined below, if they experience any issues with the Rehost or Regenerate Key Process,
