NVP vProxy: FLR Mount Fails "REST service is disabled on DD Hostname"

Symptoms

The NVP FLR mount operation or Instant Recovery fails with the following error:

159373:nsrvproxy_flr: vProxy Log: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:SSZ ERROR:  [@(#) Build number: ##] Unable to create NFS export at 'DD_HOSTNAME:/data/col1/NETWORKER_MTREE/FLR-nsr-VPROXY_NAME-ABC-###': Unable to login while creating NFS export at 'DD_HOSTNAME:/data/col1/NETWORKER_MTREE/FLR-nsr-VPROXY_NAME-ABC-###': Failed to login to DataDomain service at 'https:/DD_HOSTNAME:3009/rest/v1.0/auth'.  A 'POST' method to DataDomain at 'https:/DD_HOSTNAME:3009/rest/v1.0/auth' responded with code 400.  Failed to decode error message:  Failed to decode type '*datadomain.DataDomainApiError' from '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

This error messaging appears in the NetWorker Management Console (NMC) recover wizard while performing the restore. You can also find this in the recover logs:

For FLR:

NetWorker Server:

  • Linux: /nsr/logs/adhoc/nsrvproxy_flr/jobid.log
  • Windows: C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\logs\adhoc\nsrvproxy_flr\jobid.log
vProxy:
  • The job is actively running: /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/vflrd/mount-SESSION-ID.log
  • Previous (completed) jobs: /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/recycle/vflrd/DATE/mount-SESSION-ID.log
For Instant Recovery:

Cause

The REST service is disabled on the Data Domain.

During FLR or Instant Access recovery, the vProxy appliance connects to the Data Domain and authenticates with a Data Domain admin account. This process is required for creating the Network File System (NFS) datastores required for the FLR and Instant Recover procedures. When the REST service is disabled on the Data Domain, the vProxy appliance cannot authenticate with the DD and fails to create the NFS datastore.

Resolution

  1. Open an SSH session the Data Domain and log in as sysadmin.
  2. Enable web-service: adminaccess enable web-service
  3. Validate that web-service now shows as enabled: adminaccess show
  4. Perform the VM recovery
